Bident of Thassa + double strike = double draw.

The cycle of god weapons in Theros brings us a new combination of permanents: artifact enchantments. They have one static or triggered ability that would fit perfectly on an enchantment, but also have an activated ability that’s normally found on an artifact. The abilities are generally synergetic, with one generally helping the other out. We’re going to look at the Bident of Thassa today, and how it works with double strike creatures.

Let’s say I have a Fabled Hero and the Bident on the battlefield, and I attack into your empty board. An unblocked attacking creature with double strike will deal combat damage to the defending player twice. Since my Hero is dealing combat damage twice, the Bident’s ability will trigger a total of two times, and you’ll draw a total of two cards (one during the first combat damage step, and one during the second combat damage step).

I guess we know who the real hero in this situation is: the player holding the Bident and attacking with double strike creatures.
