Take on a Two-Headed Giant prerelease with a teammate for double the fun and glory. Share your sealed pool with a friend and build the best two decks to try and claim the city\u2019s blessing. With more cards to use, Two-Headed Giant decks will generally be stronger than their single-pool counterparts &#8211; craft yours accordingly! Here are a few tips to help guide you toward this format\u2019s <i>HIDDEN GEMS<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img  style='float:center'  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Slippery Scoundrel'><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Evasion:<\/b> With more creatures in play, board stalls can happen very quickly. Evasive creatures are critical! Flying is critical both on offense and defense. Even creatures like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Soul+of+the+Rapids&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Soul of the Rapids<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Spire+Winder&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Spire Winder<\/a> are quite reasonable threats since there is <strong>only one creature with reach<\/strong> in <i>Rivals of Ixalan<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Zacama%2C+Primal+Calamity&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Zacama, Primal Calamity<\/a> at mythic rare) and only two from <i>Ixalan<\/i>. Also keep an eye out for several creatures in the set that can\u2019t be blocked like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Slippery+Scoundrel&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Slippery Scoundrel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Storm+Fleet+Sprinter&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Storm Fleet Sprinter<\/a>. On the other hand, creatures with menace like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Goblin+Trailblazer&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Goblin Trailblazer<\/a> tend to be much worse with twice as many potential blockers.<\/li>\n<li><b>Countermagic:<\/b> Being able to shut down an enemy spell is twice as likely to happen with two spell-casting opponents. With stronger decks there are more must-answer bombs overall and the risk of devoting a turn to counter an enemy spell is less problematic when your teammate helps advance the board. Even situational counterspells like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Hornswoggle&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Hornswoggle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Negate&width=223&height=310&set=RIX\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Negate<\/a> find their targets more often.<\/li>\n<li><b>Situational Answers:<\/b> Cards that only interact with specific card or creature types are normally relegated to the sideboard but with two opponents they\u2019re more likely to have a target. Remember that matches just one game &#8211; you won\u2019t have a chance to grab a silver bullet after seeing what you\u2019re facing! Look for versatile cards that answer multiple threat types. Check to see if you have enough cards to support one of the set\u2019s archetypes. Drawing two extra cards on your first turn can be a significant advantage if you\u2019re planning for a longer game.<br \/>\n<b>Mulligan: <\/b>Each player has one \u2018free\u2019 mulligan. Use it aggressively! If you have a sub-par hand, pitch it back and try again. It\u2019s not worth risking a mediocre opening seven.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BETTER WITH FRIENDS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>The Value of Versatility<\/b>: As we mentioned earlier, 2HG matches are best of one. You want as many of your cards as possible to be efficient and flexible. That doesn\u2019t only mean packing cards that answer different threats; it can also mean engaging with your teammate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Utility: <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1224 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/01\/en_xMQWvW5EIE-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"307\" \/><\/b>Abilities and spells that aren\u2019t limited to your own creatures are often critical to undoing a bind or creating opportunity for attacks. Cards like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Aquatic+Incursion&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Aquatic Incursion<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Jadecraft+Artisan&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Jadecraft Artisan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Forerunner+of+the+Legion&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Forerunner of the Legion<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Bishop+of+Binding&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Bishop of Binding<\/a> are examples of abilities that may be used for your teammate\u2019s benefit (and ultimately, yours!). It can be used to muddle with an opponent, recycle a teammate\u2019s hand or provide a personal Windfall.<\/li>\n<li><b>Combat Tricks: <\/b>Instant-speed spells that don\u2019t specify creatures \u201cyou control\u201d can be great at fouling up combat math for the opponent. Watch for (and watch out for) common and uncommon tricks like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Aggressive+Urge&width=223&height=310&set=RIX\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Aggressive Urge<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Buccaneer%E2%80%99s+Bravado&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Buccaneer\u2019s Bravado<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Expel+From+Orazca&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Expel From Orazca<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Moment+of+Triumph&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Moment of Triumph<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Sea+Legs&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Sea Legs<\/a>. Rares like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Release+to+the+Wind&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Release to the Wind<\/a> can also strike when you least expect them.<\/li>\n<li><b>Suit Up: <\/b>Pay attention to restrictions on your auras and enchantments. Many of them can be used to support either your teammate\u2019s creatures or mess with your opponents.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Squire%E2%80%99s+Devotion&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Squire\u2019s Devotion<\/a> grants <i>you<\/i> the Vampire token regardless of which creature gets the aura.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Tilonali%E2%80%99s+Crown&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Tilonali\u2019s Crown<\/a> is either a 1 damage spell for picking off small foes or an enrage-triggering Rancor look-alike. Having options makes this card a sweet inclusion in most decks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Baffling+End&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Baffling End<\/a> is indeed baffling. Oddly, the target opponent who creates a Dinosaur token when this leaves play doesn\u2019t have to be the same one whose creature was exiled. Nab a small, value target with the front end and give the 3\/3 to your least prepared foe when it\u2019s removed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BETTER WITH ENEMIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img  style='float:center'  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Arterial Flow'><\/p>\n<p>Some cards benefit from the Two-Headed Giant format either through additional life, more creatures or simply more options. Here are some notable cards to be aware of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Arterial+Flow&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Arterial Flow<\/a><\/b> &#8211; This card will be devastating whether or not you control a Vampire as you cast it. Spending one card to put the opposing team down four cards (!) with a potential six life swing is obscene value. So there is no uncertainty, <i>you should play this card<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Forerunner+of+the+Coalition&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Forerunner of the Coalition<\/a><\/b> &#8211; Tutoring up another Pirate is good value, especially when it comes attached with 2 life lost for your opponent. This is the most exciting of the Forerunner cycle for 2HG, netting repeatable life loss for simply filling the board with pirates\u2026 which you were probably doing anyway.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Forerunner+of+the+Empire&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Forerunner of the Empire<\/a><\/b> &#8211; This card can wreak havoc on a board, especially if you can trigger it twice in a turn. It also has that all-important word, \u201cmay,\u201d meaning that you can avoid burning out your own creatures if necessary.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Gruesome+Fate&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Gruesome Fate<\/a><\/b> &#8211; This card will be incredibly swingy. Expect as many instances of doming the opposing team for 12+ life as games where it is stuck, useless, in hand. Just know that it hits each opponent.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Shake+the+Foundations&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Shake the Foundations<\/a><\/b>\u00a0&#8211; This card can find many more small creatures to destroy on a larger board. Also remember to use it post-combat for some surprise removal. Plus, it\u2019s a cantrip!<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Crafty+Cutpurse&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Crafty Cutpurse<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; Likely less frequent, but be aware that this takes all tokens from any opponent that creates them during that turn. I imagine it\u2019d be difficult to manufacture such a scenario, but it\u2019s worth knowing.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Protean+Raider&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\"><strong>Protean Raider<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; More creatures on board means more choices for your clone effect. Other times, you just need a pirate!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>NOT-SO-HIDDEN GEMS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Since there are several, I\u2019m going to rattle of a few other rare and mythic rare cards that you\u2019ll be thrilled to open with your 2HG partner.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Azor%E2%80%99s+Gateway&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Azor\u2019s Gateway<\/a> &#8211; <\/b>This is quite strong if you have ways to use your mana. On average, you\u2019ll be able to make 50% more mana than in single player games once you get it flipped thanks to your higher life total and your teammate can help prolong the game until you get there.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Elenda%2C+the+Dusk+Rose&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Elenda, the Dusk Rose<\/a> &#8211; <\/b>With four players, double the amount of possible \u2018another creature dies\u2019 triggers. Tasty!<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Etali%2C+Primal+Storm&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Etali, Primal Storm<\/a><\/b> &#8211; Friendly reminder: this is an attack trigger &#8211; it doesn\u2019t even need to make contact. Just swing away and cast up to four spells for free!<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Golden+Demise&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Golden Demise<\/a> &#8211; <\/b>A potentially one-sided <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Infest&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Infest<\/a> doesn\u2019t need much salesmanship does it?<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Nezahal%2C+Primal+Tide&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Nezahal, Primal Tide<\/a> &#8211; <\/b>The card drawing ability triggers whenever <i>any<\/i> opponent casts a noncreature spell. Additionally, if you\u2019re fortunate enough to activate the -8 ability, it\u2019s as devastating as you\u2019d imagine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>HIDDEN DUDS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>These are the cards that suffer the most from the multiplayer format. While you may find exceptions that make them work for you, be aware that they are inconvenient at best and disastrous for you in most other cases.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Curious+Obsession&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Curious Obsession<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=See+Red&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">See Red<\/a><\/b> &#8211; These cards demand a highly evasive creature and their practicality greatly diminishes in long games with more frequent board stalls. Short of an unblockable creature, enchanted creatures will very likely find an adversary in combat. Additionally, if you (not your teammate) don\u2019t attack with a creature each turn, these fall off.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Relentless+Raptor&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Relentless Raptor<\/a> &#8211; <\/b>While a strong card on its surface, being required to attack and block each turn makes it likely that this will charge into combat unprofitably\u2026 recklessly one might say. Granted, some of the loss is mitigated by your teammate drawing, but unless you\u2019re the only one benefiting each turn this card is just as likely to fuel your opponent\u2019s progress as your own.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Form+of+the+Dinosaur&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Form of the Dinosaur<\/a><\/b> &#8211; Bravery and stupidity are often indistinguishable. With twice as many creatures facing down your two-headed dino self, this is almost certainly the latter.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Blazing+Hope&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Blazing Hope<\/a><\/b> &#8211; With a higher shared life total, this will almost never find a target.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Paladin+of+Atonement&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Paladin of Atonement<\/a><\/b>\u00a0&#8211; The biggest loser here. Since the opposing team chooses which player is losing life through combat damage they just won\u2019t choose this card\u2019s controller and it becomes essentially unplayable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>TOP 10<\/b><\/p>\n<p>These are the cards I feel get the biggest boost from being in a multiplayer environment, not necessarily my top picks overall.
