Read on to learn about those changes and about how individual Dominaria cards work in 2HG.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If you\u2019re playing a 2HG prerelease you should also check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/dominaria-2hg-hidden-gems\/\">2HG Hidden Gems<\/a> that highlights which cards to look out for!<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>GENERAL NOTES<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nCombat Notes<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Combat in 2HG is changing quite a bit with the release of Dominaria. Previously you used to attack the opposing team and then still had to figure out the defending player individually for each effect that cared.<br \/>\nNow for each creature you declare as an attacker in the declare attackers step you choose one opponent (or planeswalker) to attack. This clarifies who the defending player is and who will be dealt combat damage.<br \/>\nNo matter who the creatures are attacking, the defending players still can block as a team, this hasn&#8217;t changed at all.<br \/>\nMore about this rules change\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/magic.wizards.com\/en\/articles\/archive\/news\/dominaria-comprehensive-rules-changes-2018-04-13\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1300\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Weatherlight.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"278\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1298\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Urgoros-the-Empty-One-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"278\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Weatherlight, Urgoros, the Empty One<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You declare which player you are attacking in the declare attackers step. Weatherlight&#8217;s and Urgoros, the Empty One&#8217;s abilities will trigger if they deal combat damage. If the damage is prevented by the opposing team, the abilities will not trigger.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1251\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Baird-Steward-of-Argive.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"278\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Baird, Steward of Argive.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you want to attack a player who controls Baird, Steward of Argive, you will have to pay 1 for each creature attacking that player. You can attack their teammate without having to pay any cost. This is a change to how these kind of abilities used to work.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u201cYOU\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rule of thumb for 2HG is\u00a0<strong>\u201cYou\u201d still refers to you alone, not both you and your teammate<\/strong>. Look for the word <strong>you<\/strong> in the card text, such as \u201ccreatures <strong>you<\/strong> control get +1\/+1\u201d, \u201cwhenever<strong> you<\/strong>\u00a0cast a historic spell\u201d, etc.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1306\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/UrzaRuinous-Blast-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Legendary sorcery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Casting a legendary sorcery requires <strong>you<\/strong> to control a legendary creature or planeswalker, so any permanents your teammate has don\u2019t count and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1299\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Warcry-Phoenix-215x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"277\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Warcry Phoenix<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For the ability of Warcry Phoenix to trigger, <strong>you<\/strong> need to control 3 or more attacking creatures. Warcry Phoenix doesn&#8217;t care about your teammate&#8217;s attacking creatures.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u201cEACH\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cards that say \u201ceach opponent\u201d or \u201ceach player\u201d do affect more players than usual.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1266\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/The-Eldest-Reborn.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"280\" \/><br \/>\n<em>The Eldest Reborn<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When you put the first lore counter on The Eldest Reborn, both your opponents will have to sacrifice a creature or planewalker.<br \/>\nWhen you put on the second lore counter, both of them will have to discard a card.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1253\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Caligo-Skin-Witch.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"281\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Caligo Skin-Witch<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you pay the kickercost for Caligo Skin-Witch, both of your opponents will have to discard two cards.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1255\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Fall-of-the-Thran.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Fall of the Thran<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When you put the second and third lore counter on Fall of the Thran, every player (your opponents, your teammate and you) may return 2 lands to the battlefield.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1257\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Ghitu-Journeymage.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1252\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Cabal-Paladin.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Ghitu Journeymage, Cabal Paladin\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ghitu Journeymage and Cabal Paladin deal damage to both opponents, essentially doubling the damage to 4.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1324\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Hallar-the-Firefletcher-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Hallar, the Firefletcher\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hallar deals damage equal to the number of +1\/+1 counters to each opponent, doubling the amount of damage dealt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>Each oppone<\/strong><strong>nt X and you Y\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1264\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Slimefoot-the-Stowaway.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1280\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Chainers-Torment-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"282\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Slimefoot, the Stowawaym, Chainer Torment<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Slimefoot, the Stowaway deals 1 damage to each opponent, doubling the damage to 2. You still only gain 1 though.<br \/>\nChainer&#8217;s Torment deals 2 damage to each opponent, doubling the damge to 4. You still only gain 2.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Life Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you lose life during a turn then it\u2019s only <strong>you<\/strong> who loses the life, not your teammate! Same goes for gaining life.<br \/>\nWhenever you need to know your lifetotal for an effect, use your team&#8217;s life total.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1273\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Evra-Halycon-Witness-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Evra, Halycon Witness<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For the ability of Evra, Halycon Witness you&#8217;ll use the team&#8217;s life total. The loss or gain of life only happens to you. Things that care about life gain or life loss will only trigger for you, not your teammate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1275\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Firesong-and-Sunspeaker.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Firesong and Sunspeaker<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With Firesong and Sunspeaker, the second ability will only trigger if player that controls the Firesong and Sunspeaker gains life, not their teammate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1297\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Torgaar-Famine-Incarnate-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Torgaar, Famine Incarnate<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When Torgaar, Famine Incarnate enters the battlefield, you target up to one player. Their team&#8217;s life total becomes 15. This counts as losing or gaining life for only the targeted player.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Extra Turns<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1289\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Karns-Temporal-Sundering-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"277\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1265\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Teferi-Timebender.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"276\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Karn&#8217;s Temporal Sundering, Teferi Timebender<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 2HG, teammates share turns. So if you gain an extra turn, your team will get an extra turn.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Other Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1290\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2018\/04\/Lichs-Mastery-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"279\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Lich&#8217;s Mastery<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With Lich&#8217;s Mastery in play, you can&#8217;t lose the game, so your team can&#8217;t lose the game. When Lich&#8217;s Mastery leaves the battlefield, you lose the game so your team loses the game.<br \/>\nLife loss and life gain happens to players, not the team. So you only draw cards or exile permanents\/cards when you have gained or lost life.<br \/>\nIn the declare attackers step on your opponents&#8217;s turn, they choose for each creature whether it&#8217;s attacking you or your teammate. You will only lose life if creatures attacking you deal combat damage to you. Then you will have to exile permanents\/cards.
