You can find the regular release notes\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/magic.wizards.com\/en\/articles\/archive\/feature\/kaladesh-release-notes-2016-09-16\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00a0The majority of\u00a0cards work as you\u2019d expect but there are some quirks in 2HG, often involving\u00a0the combat phase or\u00a0life total changes.\u00a0See\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/faq\/\">2HG FAQ<\/a>\u00a0if you want to know more about the rules of the format.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re going to play in a 2HG prerelease\u00a0you should\u00a0also check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/kaladesh-2hg-hidden-gems\/\" target=\"_blank\">2HG Hidden Gems<\/a> that shows which cards to look out for!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>GENERAL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This part covers the basics, &#8220;you&#8221; and &#8220;each&#8221;. If you&#8217;re already familiar with these you can skip to the <a href=\"#card\">card-specific notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;YOU&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The golden rule of 2HG is <strong><em>&#8220;You&#8221; <\/em>still refers to you alone, not both you and your teammate.<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>Something that pumps creatures you control only refers to your creatures, etc. Look if a card mentions &#8220;you&#8221; or &#8220;you control&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>These are\u00a0the new mechanics that do not interact with\u00a0your teammate:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-756\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_eni3gAY6Xf.png\" alt=\"en_eni3gAY6Xf\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Crew<\/strong>\u00a0requires you to tap <em>&#8220;creatures you control&#8221;<\/em>, so while it would be cool flavor you can&#8217;t crew your teammate&#8217;s vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-753\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_E6Yopo3pkQ.png\" alt=\"en_E6Yopo3pkQ\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy counters<\/strong> belong to a specific player, <em>&#8220;you get&#8221;<\/em> them, so energy counters that you get can&#8217;t be used by your teammate. You both have your own energy count. (Poison counters were shared between teammates but that was an exception to the rule.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-789\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_iP3U5MKa0W.png\" alt=\"en_iP3U5MKa0W\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Create<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t mention <em>&#8220;you&#8221;<\/em> on the card, but the tokens still enter &#8220;under your control&#8221; as always unless specifically mentioned otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;EACH&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cards that say <em>&#8220;each opponent&#8221;<\/em> or <em>&#8220;each player&#8221;<\/em> do affect more\u00a0players than usual.<\/p>\n<p>These two examples have\u00a0triggers that cause the opposing team to lose 2 life in total. They do not give you 2 life as well. You still gain only 1 life in total.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-764 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_xBx1c874Yz.png\" alt=\"en_xBx1c874Yz\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_nxokD6JMiB.png\" alt=\"en_nxokD6JMiB\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<hr id=\"card\" \/>\n<p><strong>CARD-SPECIFIC NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-762\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_siyU0uwm9b.png\" alt=\"en_siyU0uwm9b\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Aetherstorm Roc<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With the attack trigger you can target any one creature from the defending players, this is separate from any\u00a0other choices about &#8220;defending player&#8221;. For example, you can attack one opponent\u2019s planeswalker but target\u00a0the other opponent\u2019s creature with this ability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-751\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_5aVRve2SvE.png\" alt=\"en_5aVRve2SvE\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Cataclysmic Gearhulk<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The team whose turn it is chooses first. In a normal scenario where\u00a0you cast this on your own turn, you and your teammate first choose the permanents you want to keep, then the opposing team chooses. The opposing team will know your team&#8217;s choices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-790\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_zE5UXCyYqQ.png\" alt=\"en_zE5UXCyYqQ\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Combustible Gearhulk<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Even though you target a specific opponent, your opponents are still allowed to discuss the decision together.<\/li>\n<li>If your opponents can&#8217;t reach an agreement for some reason, it&#8217;s by default\u00a0the player in the rightmost seat from their perspective who makes the final decision. This is unaffected by whom you target with the ability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-763\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_vc06Vda84N.png\" alt=\"en_vc06Vda84N\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Consulate Surveillance<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The second ability does very little in 2HG. You have to activate this before the Combat Damage step, but in that step the opposing\u00a0team can decide which defending player an attacking creature deals its damage to, so they can simply choose your teammate after you&#8217;ve activated this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-758\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_NVmXolHdE1b.png\" alt=\"en_NVmXolHdE1b\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Dovin Baan<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The emblem looks at each opponent separately, so both players can untap two of their own permanents, it&#8217;s not two in total shared between them. Small consolidation for them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-757\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_G3wm7BHy84.png\" alt=\"en_G3wm7BHy84\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Eager Construct<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All four players may look at the same time, and you can look at each other&#8217;s top card as well before choosing what to do with your card.\u00a0The team whose turn it is\u00a0decides\u00a0first. In a normal scenario where\u00a0you cast this on your own turn, you and your teammate first decide whether to keep your card on top or not.\u00a0After this\u00a0your opponents choose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-788\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_a7I1mfNYry.png\" alt=\"en_a7I1mfNYry\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Empyreal Voyager<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Even though you attack the defending players as a team, you only deal combat damage to one of them of your choice, so you do not get twice the amount of energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-755\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_emy2dmKzBz.png\" alt=\"en_emy2dmKzBz\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Ghirapur Orrery<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The second ability triggers for each player separately. If one player has cards in hand, it can still trigger for the other player.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-793 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_igexItunaa.png\" alt=\"en_igexItunaa\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Janjeet Sentry<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can&#8217;t use the untap\u00a0ability to have a teammate&#8217;s creature tap twice for one\u00a0crew ability.\u00a0To crew a vehicle you have to tap all creatures at the same time, with no opportunity in between to use spells or abilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-761\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/2hg\/files\/2016\/09\/en_ScxfQYPv71.png\" alt=\"en_ScxfQYPv71\" width=\"265\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Trusty Companion<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This can attack along with a creature controlled by your teammate, even if no other creatures you control attack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These notes explain how Kaladesh\u00a0cards work in 2HG.
