Ask questions of testing candidates or play &#8220;Stump the L3&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slide 2: Characteristics<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Brief<\/strong>: quiz should fit in between judge calls.<br \/>\n<strong>Educational<\/strong>: should illustrate an area of the rules or IPG of interest to new judges.<br \/>\n<strong>Pocket-sized<\/strong>: carry it in pocket or phone case so it&#8217;s handy when you have a spare moment during the tournament.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slide 3: Purposes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Build skills<\/strong>: help new judges gain practice and confidence with typical floor calls<br \/>\n<strong>Screening<\/strong>: if the quiz covers an area on the test it can give you a sense of how well the candidate will do<br \/>\n<strong>Interesting<\/strong> <strong>calls<\/strong>: discussion can branch out into corner cases, \u201cwhat if\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slide 4: Advantages<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>No Memorization<\/strong>: a real plus for some learning styles<br \/>\n<strong>Mimics floor calls<\/strong>: prepares new judges for typical situations<br \/>\n<strong>Easy to develop<\/strong>: grab a handful of commons, look for a theme<br \/>\n<strong>Flexible<\/strong>: rotate cards when new sets come out, add advanced situations<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slide 5: Missed Triggers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re reading this at home, Martha describes a judge call involving each card.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Niblis+of+the+Mist&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Niblis of the Mist<\/a>: Player A (Amadeus) casts <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Niblis+of+the+Mist&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Niblis of the Mist<\/a>. Then he plays a land and then starts to declare attackers. At this point he realizes he forgot to tap a creature and calls for a judge.<\/p>\n<p><a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Farbog+Boneflinger&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Farbog Boneflinger<\/a><\/a>: Player A (Amber) chooses a target for the -2\/-2 ability (Ben&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Ulvenwald+Mystics&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Ulvenwald Mystics<\/a>, a 3\/3) but by the time they get to the Combat Damage step both players have forgotten about the effect and when the Mystics take a point of damage Ben does not put them in the graveyard. Player A (Austin) fails to transform the Mystics during his upkeep, draws a card, then notices and calls a judge.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Glint+Hawk&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Glint Hawk<\/a>: Player B (Barb) cast <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Glint+Hawk&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Glint Hawk<\/a> but forgets to return an artifact to her hand.
