{"id":398,"date":"2013-01-20T11:55:14","date_gmt":"2013-01-20T11:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/?p=398"},"modified":"2013-04-09T04:58:54","modified_gmt":"2013-04-09T04:58:54","slug":"how-to-get-accepted-and-what-to-do-when-you-dont","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conferencecontent\/2013\/01\/20\/how-to-get-accepted-and-what-to-do-when-you-dont\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Get Accepted and What to Do When You Don&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The following Document contains information originally provided by\u00a0<span class='judge-tooltip'><a href='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/judges\/dci\/1206728400' >Aaron Stickney<\/a><span class='avatar'><img width='200' height='200' src='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/dci\/avatar?dci=1206728400&size=200'><\/span><\/span>.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Choosing an Event<\/strong><br \/>\nChoose something that you CAN get on staff for.<br \/>\n&#8211; GPs: L2+, some exemplary L1s who are ready for L2.<br \/>\n&#8211; PTs: L3+<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PreApplication<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Make a name for yourself.<br \/>\n&#8211; If no one knows who you are or what you&#8217;ve done then how can they depend on you?<\/p>\n<p>Prove you should be at the event you are applying for by doing well at smaller events.<br \/>\n&#8211; Work PreReleases, GPTs, PTQs.<\/p>\n<p>Work with a higher level Judge on getting to where you want to be.<br \/>\n&#8211; If you can impress this person, then you have a major ally in getting into bigger events!<\/p>\n<p>There can be more than one.<\/p>\n<p>Talk to your RC.<br \/>\n&#8211; Your RC is there for you. Let them know what you have been working on.<br \/>\n&#8211; RCs have great sway in staff selection for larger events.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Answer the questions they want answered!<\/p>\n<p>Use proper English, write actual sentences.<br \/>\n&#8211; Convey that you are an intelligent, thinking person.<\/p>\n<p>Extra information can&#8217;t hurt you (well, unless you write a book)<br \/>\n&#8211; Let them know who you are working with, and who can give you a good reference.<br \/>\n&#8211; Let them know what events you have worked, and how much experience you have.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>You didn&#8217;t get Accepted. What now?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Not everyone who applies can be accepted. There are just too many applicants.<\/p>\n<p>Things not to do:<br \/>\n&#8211; Don&#8217;t go on a public forum and rail against the organizer for not selecting you. It will hurt your image and make it less likely to get accepted next time.<br \/>\n&#8211; Don&#8217;t get discouraged.<\/p>\n<p>Things to do:<br \/>\n&#8211; Write an email to the Judge manager and thank them for their consideration. Let them know that you still hope to work with them in the future.<br \/>\n&#8211; Start the process over again.
