{"id":902,"date":"2016-07-09T14:55:32","date_gmt":"2016-07-09T11:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/europeeast\/?page_id=902"},"modified":"2018-01-15T01:22:42","modified_gmt":"2018-01-14T22:22:42","slug":"level-1-judge-certification-checklist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/europeeast\/level-1-judge-certification-checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Level 1 Judge Testing Checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re a Level 2+ judge, you can certify new judges. <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">This is a comprehensive list for the testing process.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Before you test\u00a0a judge<\/h2>\n<p>Before you attempt testing a new Level 1 judge, make sure to\u00a0read and understand the official\u00a0information available about <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/o\/judge-levels\/become-a-magic-judge\/\">becoming a judge<\/a>,\u00a0and about the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/o\/judge-levels-redefinition\/\">judge level definitions and requirements<\/a>. Once you&#8217;ve done this, make sure you and the candidate fulfilled this checklist:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The candidate read and understood the <a href=\"http:\/\/magic.wizards.com\/en\/game-info\/gameplay\/rules-and-formats\">Basic Rulebook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/mtr\/\">MTR<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/jar\/\">JAR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The candidate judged at least two events in the previous six months (preferably with you to mentor and assess them)<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You interviewed the candidate and you believe they have the amount of knowledge needed to become a judge AND they are fit for the Judge Program (you can find interview points below)<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The candidate scored 70% or higher on the L1 exam<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The candidate agrees to be bound by the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conduct\/magic-judge-code\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Judge Code of Conduct<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Passing a Level 1 Practice test before the actual exam is not required, but highly recommended.<\/p>\n<h2>Interview Points<\/h2>\n<p>This list should give you an idea about what you should talk about with the candidate during the L1 interview, but you should use your common sense and add new topics if needed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go over the exam and explain the answers the candidate got wrong, as well as answering any additional questions.<\/li>\n<li>Explain the difference between Competitive and Regular RELs, and what is expected from a L1.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that the candidate understands that being a judge is hard work, and that learning and improving is a never-ending process.<\/li>\n<li>Ask the candidate why they want to be a judge and make sure it\u2019s for the right reasons.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the maintenance requirements, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/o\/judge-levels-redefinition\/\">as described on the Official Resources site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Testing procedures<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once you decided that the candidate is fit for the Judge Program and the Judge Program is fit for them, assuming they passed the exam, follow these steps to\u00a0update his judge level. Note it is <strong>MANDATORY <\/strong>for the certifying judge\u00a0to follow these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Help the candidate sign up to <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/\">JudgeApps<\/a> (if they hadn\u2019t done so already) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/judgeapps\/2017\/08\/01\/introducing-a-new-account-approval-process\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">approve their account.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enter an advancement interview on <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/reviews\/create\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JudgeApps<\/a>. Read about the exact process on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/o\/judge-testing\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Judge Testing page<\/a> in the Official Resources site. Once you do so, the candidate\u2019s level will be updated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Email\u00a0the relevant <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/europeeast\/regional-leadership\/\">Regional and Country Coordinators<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Send the new judge the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/o\/judge-levels\/welcome-to-level-1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Level 1 Welcome Letter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/europeeast\/welcome-to-l1-and-to-europe-east\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Welcome to Europe \u2013 East Letter<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Add the judge to the Europe \u2013 East <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/552521254830725\/\">Facebook group<\/a> and to any other applicable local groups or mailing lists.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Help them upload a profile photo to JudgeApps<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Send a welcome message to the Europe \u2013 East Facebook group and ask them to introduce themselves in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/forum\/topic\/2213\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regional JudgeApps forum<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Introduce them to the regional blog.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Explain the concepts of region and the existence of leadership judge roles, such as Regional and Country Coordinators<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re a Level 2+ judge, you can certify new judges.
