Nomination Statement

Hello everyone. My name is Beaux Bruggman and I am a level 3 judge from Sacramento, California. I have been Regional Advocate for the Pacific West Region since the special election occurred this past January. I believe I have worked for the region and learned much about the region. I look to continue to serve as Regional Advocate for the upcoming 2025-26 election cycle.

Q1: Judge Program Direction

Question: This year, many members are uncertain about our future due to Wizards of the Coast’s announcement of a new Judge Program Manager role. How will you support your region through this uncertainty and potential transition?

The announcement of a new Judge Program Manager has created a number of questions and some uncertainty. While we do not have any answers at the time of writing, I am cautiously optimistic that this will be a positive change in the coming future. Whenever any new information relating to these possible changes becomes available, I believe any Regional Advocates should be at the forefront of making sure that information is readily available to the members of their region. The Regional Advocates should also remain up to date with any new information to answer questions from judges in their respective regions. This change could also inspire any judges that may have left the program to return. Regional Advocates should be ready and available to assist these individuals as well.

Q2: Local Judges and Judging

Question: As a Regional Advocate, how will you support local judges and encourage local judging in your region?

While serving as Regional Advocate, I have had correspondence with several current and prospective judges. I have answered questions and provided guidance to those looking to become a certified judge and also to those looking to advance their judge level. Anytime a judge is looking for assistance, I try my best to help them find a mentor in a reasonable distance to their location.

Q3: Programs and Projects

Question: How do you plan to use Conferences and other major projects like Exemplar or this year’s Review Competition to support and grow your region?

The Exemplar program and reviews can be great tools to help judges learn and grow. However, with large tournaments happening sparsely in the Pacific West and RCQ events rarely needing more than one judge, the opportunity to work alongside peers is difficult to come by regularly. This leaves conferences as the best option to grow the region and local judge communities. Any judge should be encouraged to host a conference in their local area with enough interest or as a way to create interest and encourage growth. For the greater region, online conferences become the most feasible option. With the Board offering support with tools like Zoom, bringing in regional support for judges is readily available.
