\u00a0What would you like the community to know about being L4 is like?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>It&#8217;s very rewarding and often very time consuming. \u00a0I find myself wishing I had more time to be able to devote to additional judge program activities and L4. \u00a0So overall it&#8217;s great, but can be <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=exhaustion&width=223&height=310&set=PO\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">exhausting<\/a> at times.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter2-e1404916556733.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3430\" alt=\"Christ Richter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter2-e1404916556733.jpg\" width=\"222\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter2-e1404916556733.jpg 222w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter2-e1404916556733-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a>How does it feel to be a role model for your community?\u00a0 How do you use this to improve the judging community?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>It can be very humbling to be considered a role model. \u00a0I see things to emulate and admire in all sorts of people, so I don&#8217;t see myself as role model in general. \u00a0I am aware of how high level judges are seen as role models, so I try to make myself available to other judges as much as I can. \u00a0I also try to make sure that I&#8217;m still seen as doing all of the other things that judges do and that I&#8217;m not exempt from getting out on the floor moving tables and chairs, checking decks etc. \u00a0One of the more fun events I&#8217;ve had in the last 6 months was a PTQ where I was a floor judge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What is your primary role as an L4 in the judge community?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I serve as the L3 coordinator. \u00a0I work on the creation and operation of projects for L3s. \u00a0Additionally I welcome L3s into the fold making sure that becoming L3 isn&#8217;t too overwhelming. \u00a0I also work with L3s and other high level judges on evaluating and monitoring L3s activity and performance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you currently working on within the judge program?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I recently got back from Moscow, and I just finished up the the report on how that all went. I&#8217;m also trying to finish up some analysis of L3 activity in 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What are some of your goals for the Judge Program as an L4?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>As mentioned my role is to act as coordinator for the L3s.\u00a0 This is something that the program didn\u2019t really have before I was promoted.\u00a0 My overall goals with this role is to make sure I am both a resource for L3s and one for the program as a whole on the state of L3s and individual L3 judges.\u00a0 With regards to specific projects, we\u2019ve implemented a few things with L3s like the fact that they all take a short rules and policy quiz with the release of each new set.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3429\" style=\"font-size: 12px;line-height: 18px\" alt=\"Chris Richter, Riki Hayashi, Steve Port, Jordan Barker\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Chris-Richter-Riki-Hayashi-Steve-Port-Jordan-Barker-e1404916165255.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Chris-Richter-Riki-Hayashi-Steve-Port-Jordan-Barker-e1404916165255.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Chris-Richter-Riki-Hayashi-Steve-Port-Jordan-Barker-e1404916165255-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>How has being a judge influenced your non-Magic life?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Judging has done two things.\u00a0 I know it has helped my organizational skills.\u00a0 You need to be able to arrange things and adapt when you are dealing with a staff of 50 people that then needs to be divided into two to cover a split GP.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>The other thing I feel that judging has helped me with is parenting.\u00a0 Dealing with players, judges, TOs and having to resolve conflicts has helped me at home with my daughters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What motivates you to do what you do within the community?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>It\u2019s fun.\u00a0 I enjoy judging and the activities associated with it.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t do it if I wasn\u2019t having fun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the best part about the Judge Program in your opinion?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The community, the ability to travel, meet and, work with judges from all over.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>How do you communicate the goals or values of the judge program to the greater community? \u00a0Which of these would you like to see pushed\u00a0more?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I think the best way to communicate values it so exemplify them.\u00a0 The best way to communicate goals is to work with others to achieve them.\u00a0 Basically be a active part of the judge community.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Richter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3448 alignleft\" alt=\"Richter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Richter.jpg\" width=\"263\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Richter.jpg 420w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Richter-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/a>What is your favorite non-judging moment that happened with other judges?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Probably the numerous times I\u2019ve traveled to events with other judges, or spent time with them away from events.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Who were your role models in the Judge Program? What were their certain qualities that drew you to them?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><span class='judge-tooltip'><a href='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/judges\/dci\/1239' >Steve Port<\/a><span class='avatar'><img width='200' height='200' src='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/dci\/avatar?dci=1239&size=200'><\/span><\/span> was the L3 that tested me for L1 and L2.\u00a0 He\u2019s mostly known for being a TO, but he was a judge at one point.\u00a0 He definitely taught me the importance of customer service and the need to make sure you are having fun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><span class='judge-tooltip'><a href='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/judges\/dci\/40001498' >Sheldon Menery<\/a><span class='avatar'><img width='200' height='200' src='https:\/\/apps.magicjudges.org\/dci\/avatar?dci=40001498&size=200'><\/span><\/span> gave me a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=opportunity&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">opportunities<\/a> in and out of the judge program.\u00a0 From him I learned that a large part of judging is making sure other succeed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Please recognize a few outstanding members in the Program.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I don\u2019t have enough time to do that.\u00a0 Magic and the judge program has grown so big that there are numerous ways to excel.\u00a0 From the local L1 that takes care of his FNMs and prereleases on a regular basis to the L3s that travel the world and are\u00a0integral\u00a0to the\u00a0success of large GPs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter-e1404916493792.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3431\" alt=\"Christ Richter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter-e1404916493792.jpg\" width=\"231\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter-e1404916493792.jpg 408w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Richter-e1404916493792-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a>What is the largest change that you\u2019ve brought to the Magic rules\/Policies or the Judge program?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>In the last few years we\u2019ve started requiring L3 judges to submit an annual self review and the regular short rules and policy quiz I mentioned earlier.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What advice would you give to a Judge growing up through the program?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Make sure you are having fun doing what you are doing.\u00a0 Try and find new ways to get enjoyment out of the program.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>How do you make events you judge at fun, and what do you do to help judges under you have fun during events?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The best way to do that is to show your excitement and that you are having fun yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>If you were a creature what would be your creature type?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Probably a cat, but not the fierce fantasy cat, but one that gets into trouble when he\u2019s not sleeping.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What country\/continent is your favorite for GPs\/PTs, and why?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This is almost impossible to answer. Each is different in it\u2019s own way, primarily because of the people at these different events.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I have a favorite as much as I like\u00a0<\/em><em>traveling to new areas and experiencing what they have to offer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3374\" alt=\"Christ Moscow\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2014\/07\/Christ-Moscow.jpg\" width=\"2482\" height=\"1140\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What do you do to make GPs\/PTs special?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I try to bring my sense of humor.\u00a0 I also really like to give as many opportunities to others to come up with solutions.\u00a0 Being a high level judge or a head judge doesn\u2019t mean that you have all the answers.\u00a0 It just means that you are responsible for choosing what things to try.\u00a0 Anyone can come up with ideas.\u00a0 I like asking others what they feel is best and then using my experience and the info others provide to make decisions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>What\u2019s the coolest event you ever been to, and why was it so amazing?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I can\u2019t think of one that would qualify as the coolest.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even have a top 10 list of events; its really hard to compare them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two Truths and A Lie<br \/>\n<\/strong>Two of the following answers are true, figure out which!<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>1.- Back 2002 you had to wait an entire year after making L1 to test for L2, so I went to the local store on the exact day (365 days after hit L1 ) to take the L2.<br \/>\n2.- I&#8217;m a big Basketball fun, can&#8217;t wait to watch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/bulls\/?ls=iref:nba:gnav\">Chicago bulls<\/a> again!<br \/>\n3.- The farthest I have ever traveled for a magic event was <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.wizards.com\/magic\/magazine\/article.aspx?x=mtg\/daily\/eventcoverage\/gpmel14\/day1\">GP melbourne<\/a> this past march.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">[expand title=&#8221;The answer to the last Two Truths and a Lie&#8230;&#8221;] Althought George might wish he was not a Varsity Starting Offensive Guard in High School!\u00a0 [\/expand]<\/p>\n<p>Thanks Christopher for the awesome hardwork both in and outside events!<\/p>\n<p>And for you Judges don&#8217;t miss the opportunity to give recognition to your pals, we are always happy to read more about awesome judge moments, nominate a Judge Today!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello there Judges!
