As I write this, I am preparing for Grand Prix Manila. So it&#8217;s only fitting that today&#8217;s Judge of the Week is another judge attending Grand Prix Manila &#8230; Simon Lee! Also known as Ximen, (&#8220;West Gate&#8221; in Chinese) Simon is a Level 2 judge from Hong Kong. He became a judge in the spring of 2000, and leveled up only a year later. Why did he become a judge?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Very simple. I love the game. Well, back to the days around the millenium, there were very few tournaments in Hong Kong. Some of my friends and I started to run some event by ourselves. Leslie Cheung, Bone Kwok, and I rotated doing the judge work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2012\/06\/SimonLee-e1414531830644.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4391\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2012\/06\/SimonLee-e1414531830644.jpg\" alt=\"SimonLee-e1414531830644\" width=\"144\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><em>Occupation<\/em>: Systems Analyst for a trading company<\/p>\n<p><em>Favourite card<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Balance&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Balance<\/a> &#8211; It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Mind+Twist&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mind Twist<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Wrath+of+God&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Wrath of God<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Armageddon&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Armageddon<\/a>! (And sadly, it&#8217;s banned in Commander.)<\/p>\n<p><em>Least favourite card<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Abandon+Hope&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Abandon Hope<\/a> &#8211; Hope is not something we should abandon \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><em>Favourite format<\/em>: Chaos Draft*<\/p>\n<p><em>Commander general<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Pheldagriff&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Pheldagriff<\/a> &#8211; It is cute, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p><em>Random fact about him<\/em>: He doesn&#8217;t watch local TV dramas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How has being a judge influenced your non-<em>Magic<\/em> life?<\/strong><br \/>\nWell, it is very nice to meet people from other countries. This broadens my horizon, and has some impact on how I would think or deal with things I encounter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What motivates you to continue being a judge?<\/strong><br \/>\nFun and friendship. I&#8217;ve made many friends because of the game.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2012\/06\/LiBai.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4393\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/jotw\/files\/2012\/06\/LiBai.jpg\" alt=\"LiBai\" width=\"158\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a>Li Bai<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>If you could chat with one person, real or fictional, dead or alive, who would it be and why?<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Li_Bai\">Li Bai<\/a>, one of the great poets of the Tang Dynasty. I know nothing about literature, but his story is very interesting. He could write poems even he was drunk :).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the best part about your local <em>Magic<\/em> community?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have some interesting guys who are very keen on organizing some activities outside the event, like where and what to eat, or some trip for vacation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would you be doing now if <em>Magic<\/em> no longer existed?<\/strong><br \/>\nWatching some movie, probably. When I was in college, before playing <strong>Magic<\/strong>, my biggest hobby besides reading was watching movies. I used to watch one or two movies every week. Now, playing almost every FNM and some events during the weekend, I do not have as much time for films.<\/p>\n<p>And finally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s back! <strong>Two Truths and a Lie!<\/strong><br \/>\nTwo of these statements is true and one is false. Figure out which!<\/p>\n<p>1. I love One Piece (a Japanese Manga series)<br \/>\n2. My favourite singer is Mavis Fan from Taiwan.<br \/>\n3.
