{"id":252,"date":"2012-06-05T00:58:09","date_gmt":"2012-06-05T00:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/knowledgepool\/?p=252"},"modified":"2015-02-05T15:08:40","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T23:08:40","slug":"sword-of-war-and-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/knowledgepool\/2012\/06\/05\/sword-of-war-and-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"Sword of War and Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><p><img  style='float:left'  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Sword of War and Peace'><\/p>At a Competitive REL event Adam controls <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/knowledgepool\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Runeclaw+Bear&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Runeclaw Bear<\/a> equipped with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/knowledgepool\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Sword+of+War+and+Peace&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Sword of War and Peace<\/a>.\u00a0Adam and Nena are both at 20 life with 4 cards in hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Adam attacks Nena who does not block.\u00a0Nena crosses her life total out and writes 16\u00a0beneath it.\u00a0 She then crosses out the 16 and writes 12.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Adam passes turn to Nena who enters combat and then realizes that Adam has himself marked at 20 life.<br \/>\n<br style=\"clear: both; height: 1px; margin: -1px 0pt 0pt; overflow: hidden;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">What is the infraction, penalty, and additional fix?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">[expand title=&#8221;View Answer&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Some very important\u00a0facts here:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Adam is not aware of the existence of the trigger (has missed\u00a0it), and the trigger is lapsing, as both effects are defined under\u00a0lapsing triggers.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-align: justify\">Nena would have needed to call a judge in the same portion of the\u00a0turn (another effect of lapsing triggers!).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-align: justify\">Both players should be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-align: justify\">announcing their life total changes (as per MTR 2.13).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Solution:<br \/>\nWhat has happened here is really a missed trigger. \u00a0Adam is unaware of\u00a0the existence of the trigger and Nena does not call attention to it.\u00a0She has the option to call a judge if she wants the trigger put on the\u00a0stack, however once a judge has been called (in this instance) \u00a0we are\u00a0outside of the turn portion where the trigger can be put on the stack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Currently the life totals are incorrect and need to be fixed to the\u00a0correct life totals (as the trigger has not actually resolved).<\/p>\n<p>Remember that this is not a Player Communication Violation. \u00a0Neither\u00a0Adam or Nena have unintentionally violated the player communication\u00a0section of the magic tournament rules. \u00a0It is very tempting to call\u00a0what seems to be a communication issue a PCV but that infraction is\u00a0reserved for very specific purposes. \u00a0In addition, we should remind\u00a0players that they need to be verbalizing life total changes. \u00a0With\u00a0that being a new rule we should educate promptly!<\/p>\n<p>[\/expand]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At a Competitive REL event Adam controls equipped with .\u00a0Adam and Nena are both at 20 life with 4 cards in hand.
