General"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"cr-rules\"><ul><li id=\"1\"><strong>100.1<\/strong> These <strong>Magic<\/strong> rules apply to any <strong>Magic<\/strong> game with two or more players, including two-player\u00a0games and multiplayer games.<\/li><li><ul><li id=\"1a\"><strong>100.1a<\/strong> A two-player game is a game that begins with only two players.<\/li><li id=\"1b\"><strong>100.1b<\/strong> A multiplayer game is a game that begins with more than two players. See <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/cr\/#8.-multiplayer-rules\">section 8<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cMultiplayer Rules.\u201d<\/li><\/li><\/ul><li id=\"2\"><strong>100.2<\/strong> To play, each player needs their own deck of traditional <strong>Magic<\/strong> cards, small items to represent any tokens and counters, and some way to clearly track life totals.<\/li><li><ul><li id=\"2a\"><strong>100.2a<\/strong> In <em>constructed <\/em>play (a way of playing in which each player creates their own deck\u00a0ahead of time), each deck has a minimum deck size of 60 cards. A constructed deck may contain any\u00a0number of basic land cards and no more than four of any card with a particular English name\u00a0other than basic land cards.<\/li><li id=\"2b\"><strong>100.2b<\/strong> In <em>limited <\/em>play (a way of playing in which each player gets the same quantity of unopened\u00a0<strong>Magic<\/strong> product such as booster packs and creates their own deck using only this product\u00a0and basic land cards), each deck has a minimum deck size of 40 cards. A limited deck may contain as\u00a0many duplicates of a card as are included with the product.<\/li><\/li><\/ul><li id=\"3\"><strong>100.3<\/strong> Some casual variants require additional items, such as specially designated cards, nontraditional\u00a0<strong>Magic<\/strong> cards, and dice. See <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/cr\/#9.-casual-variants\">section 9<\/a>, \u201cCasual Variants.\u201d<\/li><li><ul><li id=\"4a\"><strong>100.4a<\/strong> In constructed play, a sideboard may contain no more than fifteen cards. The four-card limit\u00a0(see <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/cr100\/#2a\">rule 100.2a<\/a>) applies to the combined deck and sideboard.<\/li><li id=\"4c\"><strong>100.4c<\/strong> In limited play involving the Two-Headed Giant multiplayer variant, all cards in a team\u2019s\u00a0card pool but not in either player\u2019s deck are in that team\u2019s sideboard.<\/li><\/li><\/ul><li id=\"5\"><strong>100.5<\/strong> If a deck must contain at least a certain number of cards, that number is referred to as a minimum deck size. There is no maximum deck size for non\u2013Commander decks.<\/li><li id=\"6\"><strong>100.6<\/strong> Most <strong>Magic<\/strong> tournaments (organized play activities where players compete against other players\u00a0to win prizes) have additional rules covered in the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/mtr\/\"><strong>Magic: The Gathering<\/strong> Tournament Rules<\/a>\u00a0(found at <a href=\"http:\/\/WPN.Wizards.com\/en\/resources\/rules-documents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WPN.Wizards.com\/en\/resources\/rules-documents<\/a>). These rules may limit the use of\u00a0some cards, including barring all cards from some older sets.<\/li><li><ul><li id=\"6a\"><strong>100.6a<\/strong> Tournaments usually consist of a series of <em>matches<\/em>. A two-player match usually involves\u00a0playing until one player has won two games. A multiplayer match usually consists of only one\u00a0game.<\/li><li id=\"6b\"><strong>100.6b<\/strong> Players can use the <strong>Magic<\/strong> Store &amp; Event Locator at <a href=\"http:\/\/Wizards.com\/Locator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wizards.com\/Locator<\/a> to find\u00a0tournaments in their area.<\/li><\/li><\/ul><li id=\"7\"><strong>100.7<\/strong> Certain promotional cards and cards in the Unglued, Unhinged, and Unstable sets are printed with a silver border.
