Whether your players are trying to ninja\u2011vanish past upkeep abilities or are just don&#8217;t know how to <em>pizza<\/em> together what their permanents actually do, this set gives us plenty of opportunities to stay vigilant. So, grab your ruling staff, tighten your headband, and get ready because when it comes to keeping these triggers on track, it\u2019s our time to be heroes in a half\u2011call.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Five cards have one or more triggers that upgrade to a Warning when missed:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11046\" style=\"width: 300px;height: auto\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/files\/2026\/02\/tmt-140-bebop-rocksteady-2.jpg\" alt=\"Magic the Gathering card: Bebop &amp; Rocksteady\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Bebop+%26amp%3B+Rocksteady&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Bebop &amp; Rocksteady<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">&#8220;Whenever Bebop &amp; Rocksteady attack or block, sacrifice a permanent unless you discard a card.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is usually better to have more permanents than not; if a player missed this trigger ensure they only choose among permanents that were on the battlefield when this trigger originally should have resolved.<\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Casey+Jones%2C+Vigilante&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Casey Jones, Vigilante<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">\u201cWhen Casey Jones enters, draw three cards. At the beginning of your next upkeep, discard three cards at random.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This triggered ability creates a Delayed Triggered ability asking the player to discard three cards at the beginning of their next upkeep. If the player had cards in their hand and failed to discard after they drew their card for turn, this demonstrates they have missed this trigger. Also, if they had no cards in their hand, it is not an infraction if they \u201cmissed\u201d or failed to demonstrate awareness for this trigger.<\/p>\n<p>3. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Old+Hob%2C+Alleycat+Blues&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Old Hob, Alleycat Blues<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">&#8220;[At the beginning of combat on your turn, create a token]. Destroy it at the beginning of the next end step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Old Hob creates a Delayed Triggered Ability like other Red Token creators with a little twist, instead of being sacrificed Old Hob says to destroy them. If missed, the opponent chooses whether to revolve the ability the next time a player would get priority or when a player would get priority at the start of the next phase. This choice never expires due to how many turns it has been, they must be removed. It is interesting that Old Hob can give those tokens Indestructible, but that is not enough to not get a Warning here.<\/p>\n<p>4. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Chrome+Dome&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Chrome Dome<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">&#8220;[Create a token]. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If missed, the opponent chooses whether to revolve the ability the next time a player would get priority or when a player would get priority at the start of the next phase. This choice never expires due to how many turns it has been, they must be removed.<\/p>\n<p>5. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Tokka+%26amp%3B+Rahzar%2C+Terrible+Twos&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Tokka &amp; Rahzar, Terrible Twos<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">\u201cWhenever a player casts a spell, if the amount of mana spent to cast it was less than its mana value, Tokka &amp; Rahzar deal 3 damage to that player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This trigger is what we call <em>symmetrical<\/em>, meaning that if you own this trigger <em>(and the card responsible for it)<\/em> and miss it when it applied to you, this will upgrade to a Warning and a stern look from Raphael.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Two cards have triggers that do not earn a Warning, but are worth discussing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This next part of the article is where we like to call some triggers we found to be interesting, something to be on the lookout for, or something that may appear usually detrimental but is not.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11046\" style=\"width: 300px;height: auto\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/files\/2026\/02\/anchovy-1.jpg\" alt=\"Magic the Gathering card: Anchovy &amp; Banana Pizza\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Anchovy+%26amp%3B+Banana+Pizza&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Anchovy &amp; Banana Pizza<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">&#8220;When this artifact enters, destroy target creature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This doesn&#8217;t say, &#8220;destroy <em>up to one<\/em> target creature&#8221; meaning if you are the only player with a creature and control this trigger when it goes onto the stack and you will have to target your own creature.<\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/rules\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Koya%2C+Death+from+Above&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Koya, Death from Above<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2em\">\u201cWhen Koya enters, exile up to one other target creature. At the beginning of the next end step, you may pay\u00a0{3}{B}. <em>If you don\u2019t, return that card to the battlefield under its owner\u2019s control<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you see this come up in a game you are judging, your ninja senses should be going off telling you to investigate here. Policy does have this outlined well for us though because this is a Delayed Triggered Ability that undoes a zone change caused by its earlier triggered ability. This means that if the player misses this trigger, it will never expire and the opponent will choose to resolve this trigger the next time a player would get priority or when a player would get priority at the start of the next phase.<\/p>\n<p>As we wrap up our journey through these ooze\u2011infused triggers, remember that even the most seasoned heroes can slip on a rules banana peel when the battlefield gets chaotic. Stay aware of what&#8217;s on the battlefield, what&#8217;s still hiding in its shell, and be ready to snap the game back on track when needed.
