<\/p>
Flickerwisp\u2019s triggered ability is actually two abilities: one that exiles the target permanent, and one that creates a delayed trigger which will try to bring it back at the beginning of the next end step. So what happens if the target is a creature, and Containment Priest is on the battlefield? Well, the first part happens as normal. The creature\u2019s exiled. It’s where we get to the end step that some funky things happen. The delayed trigger tries to return the exiled creature to the battlefield, but Containment Priest replaces it by returning the exiled creature to… exile. The creature doesn\u2019t move at all, but Flickerwisp’s trigger is satisfied that it’s done its thing (even if that thing was replaced with nothing), and it won’t trigger again, no matter how many more end steps go by. The result? A creature that\u2019s exiled forever! (It doesn’t exactly move anywhere physically, but it does technically become a new object as it ‘moves’ from exile to exile.)<\/p>\n This is just one example of how an already powerful ability can get even more powerful with just the right synergy.
