What to do about its tokens? Would you believe the answer is another Maelstrom Pulse? That’s right, even though one token has deathtouch and the other has lifelink, and they even have different pictures, both tokens have the same name — Wurm. Whenever a token creature is created, unless the ability that creates it gives it a specific name (like Dark Depths’ Marit Lage), its name is the same as whatever creature type it has. Since both tokens have the Wurm creature type, their names are both Wurm, so Maelstrom Pulse (or Bile Blight, or Detention Sphere), will whisk them both off the battlefield. This doesn’t apply just to Wurmcoil’s tokens, either — you can get rid of Worldspine Wurm‘ tokens and Advent of the Wurm‘s tokens the same way, all at once!

Today’s Rules Tip written by Jen Wong

A token has the same name as its creature type unless whatever created it gives it a different name.
