Protection from Black helps against four things: prevent all damage from black sources; can’t have black enchantments or equipment attached to it; can’t be blocked by black creatures; and can’t be targeted by black spells or abilities of black sources (commonly collected under the acronym of DEBT.) The Crux does none of those things, so having protection from black will not help: the creature will still be destroyed.

Likewise, hexproof will not help save your creature either: the Crux doesn’t target anything, so having hexproof will not save the creature and it will be destroyed.

Well, that’s all I have for today.
