Spellskite<\/a> can\u2019t change a spell or ability’s modes (usually indicated by\u00a0\u201cchoose one\u201d or “choose two”).\u00a0 Modes are locked in when a spell or\u00a0ability is put on the stack. \u00a0If Steel Sabotage<\/a> is cast choosing the mode to “counter target artifact spell,” Spellskite can\u2019t change the target to itself, because the mode to\u00a0“return target artifact to its owner’s hand”\u00a0wasn’t chosen and Spellskite is\u00a0not an artifact spell (while it’s on the battlefield).\u00a0 The same is true for modal abilites, such as with the Exarch cycle.\u00a0 Your opponent’s Tormentor Exarch<\/a>‘s ability\u00a0can give a creature he controls +2\/+0, or a creature an opponent controls -0\/-2.\u00a0 Your Spellskite can’t redirect\u00a0the +2\/+0 mode, but can redirect the -0\/-2 mode.\u00a0 Make sure to read the chosen mode carefully to determine whether Spellskite would be a legal target for that particular mode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
