For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Scarwood+Treefolk&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Scarwood Treefolk<\/a> says \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Scarwood+Treefolk&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Scarwood Treefolk<\/a> is put onto the battlefield tapped\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Triskelion&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Triskelion<\/a> says \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Triskelion&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Triskelion<\/a> enters the battlefield with three +1\/+1 counters on it.\u201d Although these cards won\u2019t have these abilities in the graveyard, they will be applied if the cards are put onto the battlefield from the graveyard (due to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Zombify&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Zombify<\/a>, perhaps). What matters is that these cards will have these abilities on the battlefield.<br \/>\n2007-05-01: If <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Mistform+Ultimus&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mistform Ultimus<\/a> is in the graveyard, the Ultimus will lose its ability that says \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Mistform+Ultimus&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mistform Ultimus<\/a> is every creature type,\u201d but it will still *be* all creature types. The way continuous effects work, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Mistform+Ultimus&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mistform Ultimus<\/a>\u2019s type-changing ability is applied before <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Yixlid+Jailer&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Yixlid Jailer<\/a>\u2019s ability removes it.<br \/>\nBOOM! Text: 1, Us: 0<br \/>\nSo let\u2019s try to beat this card by looking at its common judge questions in Modern and other Eternal formats.<\/p>\n<p>The Undying Messenger from the Grave<br \/>\n<p><img  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Geralf%27s Messenger'><\/p><br \/>\nMessenger has arrived!<\/p>\n<p>So what happens when <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Geralf%26%238217%3Bs+Messenger&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Geralf&#8217;s Messenger<\/a> without a +1\/+1 counter dies when <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Yixlid+Jailer&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Yixlid Jailer<\/a> is in play?<br \/>\nSo we refer to the 2nd reminder rulings where \u201cIf an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, that ability triggers from the battlefield (such as Deadwood Treefolk or Epochrasite, for example), they won\u2019t be affected by Yixlid Jailer.\u201d<br \/>\nThe messenger will still have the undying trigger triggering.<br \/>\nThen in part 2, Undying trigger tries to bring back the messenger! What happens now?<br \/>\nThen we recall CR 614.12 \u201cTo determine which replacement effects apply and how they apply, check the characteristics of the permanent as it would exist on the battlefield\u201d<br \/>\nSo the messenger will be reanimated and still ETB tapped and make an opponent lose 2 life. As Yixlid Jailer will not affect how a permanent arriving from the graveyard enters the battlefield; <strong><em>any abilities it has that might affect how it enters the battlefield are taken into account, even though in the graveyard those abilities did not exist.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nWhy? Jailer<\/a> will prevent those abilities from triggering at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is because <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Narcomoeba&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Narcomoeba<\/a> loses its ability when it enters the graveyard and no ETGrave ability triggered.<br \/>\nSo the Jailer of the Damned will not let them enter play to haunt your plans to enter top 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hogaak and Friends<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><p><img  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis'><\/p><br \/>\nJailed<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Yixlid+Jailer&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Yixlid Jailer<\/a> exercises his right to remove all of Hogaak\u2019s abilities when the skeletal monstrosity is in the graveyard. No trample, no convoke, no delve, no way to cast from graveyard and only an 8\/8.<\/p>\n<p>If the effect another card allows you to cast Hogaak from the graveyard, for example, with an <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/searegion\/wp-content\/plugins\/lems-mtg-helper\/lems-mtg-helper-cardfinder.php?find=Underworld+Breach&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Underworld Breach<\/a> that has a later timestamp than Yixlid Jailer, you will move it on the stack as\u00a0 the first step of casting it. Since it&#8217;s not in the graveyard anymore, you can delve and\/or convoke when you pay the costs to cast it, but you still cannot spend mana.<\/p>\n<p><img  class='lems-mtg-cardimg' src='http:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Handlers\/Image.ashx?size=small&type=card&name=Stinkweed Imp'><\/p>\n<p>No Dredge no GTT No matter what<\/p>\n<p>So our little imp will be jailed right<br \/>\nwhere it belongs in the graveyard and<br \/>\nbe disallowed to keep bouncing back to<br \/>\nits owner\u2019s hand by milling 5 cards<br \/>\ninstead of letting his owner draw a<br \/>\ncard.<br \/>\nStinky also cannot fly in the graveyard<br \/>\nand is not that stinky anymore to make<br \/>\nyour creature die to its smell.
