Roger has been one of the strongest, most reliable area captains, dealing with a workload far beyond that of a normal AC simply due to how remote South Africa is as part of UKISA. Under Roger’s leadership, growth in South Africa has been amazing, and any who have had the opportunity to work with him know that he cares a huge amount, and put an even larger amount of effort into keeping South Africa on the map.

This post is announcing a new idea for Area Captaincy in general, but specifically for South Africa — an open application process.

For now, this application is only available for South Africa-based L2+ judges. It will remain open until October 31st, 2018. At this time, depending on applications, there may be further steps, or there may be a new AC appointed to guide South Africa through the most recent changes to the judge programme and organised play alike.

For an idea of the expectations of the applicant, the following is asked of the applicant:

Be a contact point to allow local players, judges, and stores to contact a member of regional leadership that they are familiar with.

Guide and mentor judges in their area as time allows, or organising this structure.

Being willing to deal with receiving and forwarding post from Jack, involving Exemplar letters and foils, judge badges, shirts, and so on.

Communicating regularly with the Area Captain group and with the other members of regional leadership, providing updates on judges and stores, and the general health of the community.

Invitation (and optional attendance) to the regional leadership conference, held in Q1/Q2 2019.

As with other Area Captains, the position is unpaid, although expenses incurred for shipping and postage (as well as time spent on these activities) are reimbursed/pre-paid by the region.

To apply for this position, please answer the following questions in an email to Jack (scryus@gmail.com):

What is your vision for the South African judge community? What initiatives or ideas do you have as a potential Area Captain to further this vision?

Do you foresee any other candidates applying for this position? Can you summarise the current leadership and division of work for South Africa?

What makes you a good fit for the role?

If you have any other questions or clarifications, please get in touch directly and I’ll do my best to answer.

Once again, a huge amount of thanks to Roger for his fantastic work in the time I’ve known him, and I look forward to meeting the new face of South African judging.

Jack

Jack opens applications for the position of South Africa Area Captain — applications open until October 31st!

[6
["post-33","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-announcements
["GET
