{"id":8,"date":"2016-01-31T20:02:59","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T02:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/usanorth\/?page_id=8"},"modified":"2018-12-30T17:17:57","modified_gmt":"2018-12-30T23:17:57","slug":"area-captains","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/usanorth\/area-captains\/","title":{"rendered":"Area Captains"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is an Area Captain?<\/h2>\n<p>Area Captains are &#8220;that person&#8221; in their area &#8211; they help judge candidates connect with mentors, stores connect with judges, and know the judges and stores in their local areas well. \u00a0The Regional Coordinator might sometimes connect a store looking for a judge with an Area Captain, or ask an Area Captain for feedback on judges in their area, or how organized play is behaving in their area in general.<\/p>\n<p>Area Captains also have regular meetings and contact with the Regional Coordinator &#8211; if the Regional Coordinator is being unresponsive, or did something silly, they are a good channel for feedback.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u00a0<em>don&#8217;t<\/em> Area Captains do?<\/h2>\n<p>Area Captains don&#8217;t have to solve all problems themselves. \u00a0They are enablers &#8211; they exist to help people connect with other people. \u00a0They aren&#8217;t responsible for certifying or mentoring everyone themselves, and will probably connect you to someone else.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what they are supposed to do!<\/p>\n<p>Area Captains don&#8217;t arbitrate disputes between stores, judges, players, or Wizards of the Coast. \u00a0If there is an issue with a judge, <a href=\"mailto:robbit@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contact the Regional Coordinator<\/a>. \u00a0If there is an issue with a store doing something like breaking street date, report that to <a href=\"mailto:investigations@wizards.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigations@wizards.com<\/a>. \u00a0If you have an issue with a player, write up the details and <a href=\"mailto:robbit@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pass it to the Regional Coordinator<\/a>, who can open a case with the Player Investigations Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Area Captains don&#8217;t force judges to judge events &#8211; they help find judges, but judges aren&#8217;t required to judge any particular event. \u00a0Being hired for an event is between the judge and the Tournament Organizer. \u00a0If a judge has agreed to judge an event and backed out or done something bad related to that event, please <a href=\"mailto:robbit@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contact the Regional Coordinator<\/a>, who handles conduct disputes. \u00a0(If you would rather be anonymous or the issue is with the Regional Coordinator, the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/conduct\/feedback-form-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Magic Judge Feedback Form<\/a> is available.)<\/p>\n<h2>What area is each Area Captain in charge of?<\/h2>\n<p>We have a map! \u00a0It is a little vague &#8211; if you aren&#8217;t sure who is &#8220;in charge&#8221; of you, that&#8217;s fine. \u00a0First, Area Captains aren&#8217;t &#8220;in charge&#8221; of anyone. \u00a0They are leaders, not bosses. \u00a0Pick one, or both, and keep in touch. \u00a0You probably were already.<\/p>\n<p>All the areas on the map (and in the Area Captain image links below) are based on urban areas. \u00a0Those are the core places where a lot of stores are. \u00a0There are certainly areas not spelled out, and some that are a little ambiguous. \u00a0If you need help, get in touch with whomever you feel most comfortable with. \u00a0If it is the Regional Coordinator, or an Area Captain, or a nearby L1 or L2, that is totally fine. \u00a0The goal is to enable communication, not stifle it.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I contact an Area Captain?<\/h2>\n<p>There are images below!
