Indeed, the consequences of such mismanipulation are fairly important since, when decks are handed back after a deck check, players cannot use their sideboards again. Here\u2019s something that\u2019s been quick and effective for me, so I wanted to share it.<br \/>\n<em>Note that for midround Limited deck checks try the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/articles\/2015\/07\/06\/the-australian-deck-check-technique\/\">Australian Deck Check<\/a>\u201d technique instead, designed specifically for those!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preliminary operations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you have the decks back to the deck check area:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Check for any markings or damaged sleeves in the main deck.<br \/>\n<\/b>It\u2019s only an infraction if the cards in the <b>main deck<\/b> are marked, but if you notice markings on the sideboard, it\u2019s good customer service to tell the player so they avoid future problems.<\/li>\n<li><b>Sort the main deck.<br \/>\n<\/b>I recommend sorting Constructed decks by Converted Mana Cost, and grouping anything CMC 6+ together. If you only find the problem as you finish the deck check then you might have a long time extension, so start looking where they\u2019re most likely.<\/p>\n<p>Read through the cards listed in the sideboard on the decklist, for each card:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pull that card out of the unchecked sideboard and move it away from you, forwards in its lane, to the checked sideboard pile.<\/li>\n<li>If there\u2019s a card you can\u2019t find in the unchecked sideboard it means the player sideboarded it into their deck this game. <b>Put down any sideboard cards you\u2019re holding so they don\u2019t cross lanes<\/b>, then find the card in the main deck and move it forwards in its lane, from the unchecked main deck to the checked main deck.<\/li>\n<li>Again, <b>no card can ever change lanes. <\/b>Make sure there\u2019s plenty of space between the two lanes, to make it hard to accidentally move cards between lanes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you move a card forward to the checked row, it helps to also \u201ctap\u201d them, to make it clear they have been checked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1138\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains-1024x612.jpg\" alt=\"Lanes SB checked MD remains\" width=\"980\" height=\"586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains-1024x612.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains-768x459.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.magicjudges.org\/whatsupdocs\/files\/2016\/11\/Lanes-SB-checked-MD-remains-125x75.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i>The sideboard has been checked, all 15 cards from it have been moved up to \u00a0\u201cchecked\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>2) Check the main deck.<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Now that all the cards listed on the sideboard have been moved, the cards left over in the two lanes should match the main deck on the decklist.<\/p>\n<p>Like before, read through the cards listed on the main deck, and for each card in order move it forwards in its lane.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful with any cards where a player has sideboarded out some copies, but not all of them.<\/p>\n<p>If they have 4 Lightning Bolt listed on their decklist, and there are 2 in their main deck and 2 in the sideboard when you check the deck, move the cards forwards in each lane when you count them, don\u2019t combine them!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>3) Deal with any problems, and return the deck.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If there\u2019s anything left over it wasn\u2019t listed on the decklist OR;<\/li>\n<li>If there\u2019s anything written on the decklist that you can\u2019t find, it wasn\u2019t with the cards the player presented.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a problem! Investigate, including making sure it was not a mistake by you, and fix them!<\/p>\n<p>When returning the deck to players make sure there\u2019s a physical divider between the main deck and sideboard, a divider they had in their deckbox, the match slip, or even just a small piece of paper.
