Random fact about yourself: I once turned up to judge a local draft in a corset after seeing Rocky Horror.
What are you hoping to learn at this event?: I really love getting to grips with new systems and ways of working, and I loved the fact that I had to think on my feet and very quickly understand how things at the MF worked.
Who are your mentors?: Hary Barlow, Erin Murphy, and Winter Hughes have all helped me greatly in my short time as a judge.
What challenges have you faced or are you facing to become a better judge?: I’m naturally conflict-averse, and I’ve struggled historically to deal with pressing for more details or dealing with difficult interpersonal situations.
How have you worked to overcome those challenges?: I’ve developed confidence through doing and through discussing different strategies with other judges. I’ve had to actively push myself to get better at it, and it’s really paid off.
