Hey, everyone! It’s Fortunato Acosta, back with a new highlight! Hopefully you still have enough energy after the release of Kaladesh to get through this review from Eric Cheung to Joshua Marin!
Eric is from Irvine, California! He started all the way back in 1995! Wow! Back when batches were a thing and damage was on the stack! As he liked to put it, he’s a “nostalgic Timmy at heart(…)”–which is why he had to say that Shivan Dragon was and still is his favorite card of all time, in particular the version which didn’t state the “until end of turn” clause for firebreathing.
affinity Joshua on the other hand started back in Mirrodin playing Black-White Clerics. Seems like he has an with decks full of removal and lifegain to take down the robot menace! His favorite card is also from the block he started in: Geth, Lord of the Vault. Geth, for those of you who know, is kind of like one of those super sweet commander staples so I was surprised that with giving me that answer anything other than Commander being his favorite format would be quite shocking. His favorite format is actually limited, not any particular set or block he just really loves opening packs and seeing his pool. He also got into becoming a Judge to feed his love for the game, being given compensation for events and making it into store credit at his local store. He grew to love competitive REL and pursued becoming an L2.
Without further delay, Eric’s review!
“At Grand Prix LA, a player came up to you regarding some lost property. You suggested that he check the Lost and Found, per usual procedure, but while he went to the information booth, you talked with the TO and were able to secure replacements as most of the lost property were event promotional items. You could have just handed the issue to Lost and Found, but went beyond the expected level of customer service and took ownership of the issue presented in order to get it resolved.”
Now, I didn’t choose this review because I can resonate with the player who lost…some property at GPLA, as you can ask fellow Judge Vicente Davis about that, but because it a great example of going above and beyond what is needed for Judging an event, no matter how big or small. The fact that it was a player’s property adds even more to it because it shows the average player that we really care about the playing community– and that we’re not just Magic’s equivalent of a referee.
Hopefully I fabricated a pretty good piece, and that you enjoyed it! Have fun playing with all those new Kaladesh cards. I’m Fortunato, signing off.
