An Unofficial Late October 2025 Gatherer Update Bulletin

In late October (somewhere between the 27th and the 31th), Wizards of the Coast (WotC) made an unscheduled update to Gatherer. That update reverted some of the changes from the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY update, as well as some pre-release errata for the Edge of Eternities release.

Disclaimer: While I strive for completeness and correctness, I may have missed some changes; my process for archiving and comparing Gatherer revisions is still a work in progress.1

Higher costs (functional)

As part of the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY update, WotC had lowered the activation cost of several activated abilities by effectively {9}, {18}, or even {99}. For two triggered abilities, a cost paid during the ability’s resolution had been lowered by effectively {9}.

For the Edge of Eternities cards Survey Mechan and The Dominion Bracelet, WotC had issued errata that lower activation costs found in those cards’ text by effectively {9} each.

With this unscheduled update, WotC reversed most of those changes.

This update applies to: Draco, Mox Lotus, Spawnsire of Ulamog, Colossus of Akros, Phyrexian Triniform, The Tarrasque, Belt of Giant Strength, Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree, Survey Mechan, and The Dominion Bracelet.

Grim Giganotosaurus and Redshift, Rocketeer Chief retain their discounts for now.

  1. Then again, WotC often omit minor changes in their own bulletins, so it’s par for the course. ↩︎
