Sometime after the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update (and before the 18th of July), Wizards of the Coast made an unscheduled update to Gatherer. The update’s major point is the removal of all rulings dated 19th of June 2026 (except for one duplicate ruling on Thirst for Knowledge’s Gatherer page). Those were nearly all the rulings added by the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update, with most of them found on the pages of cards featured in the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes release.
Disclaimer: I have no special insight into the inner workings of Wizards of the Coast or their rules team; any observations are based solely on the published updates and my own knowledge and understanding of Magic’s rules system. While I strive for completeness and correctness, I may miss some changes; in particular, my process for archiving and comparing Gatherer revisions is constantly evolving, just like Gatherer itself. (Then again, Wizards of the Coast purposefully omit minor changes in their own bulletins, so I think I’m still ahead.)
Daredevil, Man Without Fear
The July 2026 update adds a Gatherer page for the Gift Bundle promo version of Daredevil, Man Without Fear.
Settle the Wreckage
An almost duplicate ruling has been added to Settle the Wreckage’s Gatherer page.
Settle the Wreckage targets only the player. Attacking creatures with hexproof that player controls will be exiled as this spell resolves.
Sauron, the Dark Lord
Five rulings have been added to Sauron, the Dark Lord’s Gatherer page.
To amass Goblins N, if you don’t control an Army creature, create a 0/0 black Goblin Army creature token. Then you choose an Army creature you control and put N +1/+1 counters on it. If that Army isn’t already a Goblin, it becomes a Goblin in addition to its other types.
Amass Orcs works the same way, except you create a 0/0 black Orc Army creature token if you don’t control an Army. And if the Army creature you chose isn’t already an Orc, it becomes an Orc in addition to its other types. By combining cards with amass Orcs and amass Goblins, you can end up with a Goblin Orc Army.
In the rare case that you control multiple Army creatures (perhaps because you control a creature with changeling) while you amass Goblins, you choose which of your Army creatures to put the +1/+1 counters on. If that creature isn’t a Goblin, it becomes a Goblin in addition to its other types.
If you don’t control an Army, the Goblin Army token you create enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature before receiving counters. Any abilities that trigger when a creature with a certain power enters the battlefield, such as that of Mentor of the Meek, will see the token enter as a 0/0 creature before it gets +1/+1 counters.
Some spells and abilities that amass Goblins may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won’t resolve. You won’t amass Goblins.
Gatherer entries added by the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update
The July 2026 update removes all rulings for cards newly printed in the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes release, as well as all rulings for reprinted cards that had no prior Gatherer entry.
Reverted: Layer 4 comes before layer 6
The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update added a ruling on the interaction between type-changing effects generated by static abilities and ability-removing effects to select Gatherer pages.
The July 2026 update removes that ruling.
This update applies to the Gatherer pages of: Tajuru Paragon and Stonework Packbeast.
If an effect causes this creature to lose all abilities, it will retain the creature types granted to it by its first ability, even though it will no longer have that ability. This is because the ability that grants it creature types applies before the effect that removes it.
Reverted: Layer 5 comes before layer 6
The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update added a ruling on the interaction between color-changing effects generated by static abilities and ability-removing effects to select Gatherer pages.
The July 2026 update removes that ruling.
This update applies to the Gatherer pages of: Transguild Courier, Sphinx of the Guildpact, O-Kagachi Made Manifest, and Fallaji Wayfarer.
If an effect causes this creature to lose all abilities, it will remain all colors, even though it will no longer have the ability that says it is all colors. This is because the ability that says it is all colors applies before the effect that removes it.
Rancor
The single ruling on Rancor’s Gatherer page has been removed.
If the creature Rancor would enchant is an illegal target by the time the spell tries to resolve, it doesn’t resolve. It won’t enter the battlefield, so it won’t be put into a graveyard from the battlefield and its ability won’t trigger.
Massacre Girl
All five rulings on Massacre Girl’s Gatherer page have been removed.
Massacre Girl’s last ability and its delayed triggered ability each affect only creatures on the battlefield at the time that those abilities resolve. Creatures that enter the battlefield or become creatures later in the turn won’t get -1/-1 unless the delayed triggered ability triggers and resolves again later.
Once Massacre Girl’s last ability has triggered, it doesn’t matter whether Massacre Girl remains on the battlefield. The delayed triggered ability will be created as the enters ability resolves.
Creatures that die while Massacre Girl’s triggered ability is still on the stack won’t cause its delayed triggered ability to trigger since that delayed triggered ability hasn’t been created yet.
A creature with 0 toughness doesn’t die immediately. Rather, the creature dies the next time a player would receive priority. This means that any creatures whose toughness become 0 as Massacre Girl’s last ability resolves will remain on the battlefield until just after the delayed triggered ability has been created.
If more than one creature dies at once, Massacre Girl’s delayed triggered ability triggers that many times.
Extinction Event
Two rulings have been removed from Extinction Event’s Gatherer page.
If a creature on the battlefield has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0 for the purpose of determining its mana value.
The mana value of a token that isn’t a copy of another object is 0. A token that is a copy of another object has the same mana cost (and thus mana value) as that object.
Unnatural Growth
One ruling has been removed from Unnatural Growth’s Gatherer page.
To double a creature’s power and toughness, that creature gets +X/+Y, where X is that creature’s power and Y is that creature’s toughness when Unnatural Growth’s ability resolves.
Reverted: Blazing Crescendo
The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update added an almost duplicate ruling to Blazing Crescendo’s Gatherer page.
The July 2026 update removes that ruling and restores the other rulings’ previous dates.
If the target creature is an illegal target by the time the spell tries to resolve (most likely because it has left the battlefield in response), it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. No card will be exiled.
The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes update also came with a unique lists of rulings for the reprint versions of Blazing Crescendo. With the removal of all rulings dated 19th of June 2026, the three Gatherer pages for Blazing Crescendo now all list the same rulings.
Ravenous Tyrannosaurus
All three rulings on Ravenous Tyrannosaurus’s Gatherer page have been removed.
Ravenous Tyrannosaurus can’t devour creatures entering the battlefield at the same time it is.
Excess damage is calculated in a way similar to the way trample is handled. Start with the amount of damage being dealt to the creature and determine what is lethal. Usually, this is the creature’s toughness minus the damage already marked on it, ignoring any replacement or prevention effects that will modify this damage. Also ignore whether the creature won’t actually be destroyed by this damage, perhaps because it has indestructible.
Once you’ve determined how much damage is excess, Ravenous Tyrannosaurus simultaneously deals damage to the target creature and its controller. This damage may be modified by replacement or prevention effects.
Harbinger of the Seas
Two rulings have been removed from Harbinger of the Seas’s Gatherer page.
If a nonbasic land has an ability that triggers “when” it enters, it will lose that ability before it can trigger.
If a nonbasic land has an ability that causes it to enter tapped, it will lose that ability before it can apply. The same is also true of any other abilities that modify how a land enters or apply “as” a land enters, such as that of Vesuva or Cavern of Souls.
Web Up
All three rulings on Web Up’s Gatherer page have been removed.
If Web Up leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the target permanent won’t be exiled.
Auras attached to the exiled permanent will be put into their owners’ graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanent will cease to exist. When the card returns to the battlefield, it will be a new object with no connection to the card that was exiled.
If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won’t return to the battlefield.
