Hello again ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, elves and goblins, or whichever subtype you prefer! Sal Cortez here, and I bring for your entertainment another Judge Exemplary Highlight! This time I have for you an Exemplar written by Miao Bai for Hang Wang!

Miao, hails from China. Miao started playing Magic around 1999, when he was in the 7th or 8th grade. Magic was different in China, their first set released was 5th Edition, two years after it was released in the US. But it was still Magic, a game made better with friends to play it with. He loves the luck and randomness of sealed, the complex rules, and the subtle mind games. He became a judge in 2014, and has been active in the community ever since!

“I know you most of the time judge with me, and I do see your improvement during the past year on judging, and communication, and also on your rule knowledge. On the other hand, you could bring me a lot of thinking and understanding on IPG and MTR. Sometimes even it comes as a question, not only you show your willing on thinking about documents, also you prove that you want to get more improment. Last part, thanks for helping me a lot on running local competitive events and thanks for your help on local FNM drafts.”

Now wasn’t that lovely? I don’t know about you, but reading this inspires me to become a better judge. This is the very example of the kind of exemplary behavior that the Exemplar Program tries to encourage, that Miao is encouraging.

Hang Wang has been in the judging community for a few years now, since 2013. After passing his L1 exam in 2015 he started giving back to his community. Whether it was FNM or head judging a GPT his passion has shown through. In such a short time he as greatly improved both as a judge and as a player and, as proof by the Exemplar, people have certainly noticed!
