Exemplar Highlights – Nicolette Apraez and Phil Painter

Searching the Encyclopedia Galactica for entities known as Phil Painter brings up zero results, as one would expect of any intergalactic knowledge compendium, considering entities such as Zeus and Laurogor of Nosor 7 receive nothing more than a blurry picture and a 5 word description (both of which unsurprisingly read, “believe in case of crisis”).

However The Guide, with its overly curious editors, cite three instances of Phil Painter in all of the cosmos. The first and most influential of which is the tricellular king of the Fungzoae on Krebios 8, his (well, its) ceasefire treatise having recently ended a multi-generation feud between the green Algaens and red Diatomas factions, lasting nearly 24 second before a cloud of sulfur choked out their entire civilization.

The second instance is only briefly noted by an Earthling editor of The Guide, Nicolette Apraez*.  This Phil Painter is a Magic Judge** out of Northern California, voted best Northern land mass in the Alpha quadrant in 2035 by the Mars branch of the magazine Cosmo (ironically a magazine that has nothing to do with space). But the entirety of the entry was destroyed by the rhythmic data ant infestation***, save this long form high five describing their time together in the time lost land called “Houston”.

It was such a treat to work with you in Houston! You had a focus on making Scheduled Side Events better, and that was clear in your actions throughout the weekend. When the TO explained how they wanted the Gathering Point flags set, it seemed logical enough that I didn’t question it. You had the idea to move the flag near each Scheduled Events Pairings board, to help players navigate the hall. Originally, I turned the idea down because I had been told that they had made a decision and didn’t have a reason to go against that. A few hours later, I decided to bring it up with Lems and he thought your idea could work, and decided to give it a try. (It was DEFINITELY his idea to troll you by saying that he had come up with this “new GREAT idea” of moving the flag. Sorry about that! (^.^) ) In addition to having innovative ideas, you also forced me to take care of myself and stay hydrated during peak hours. I really appreciated all of your hard work and I hope I get the chance to work with you again!

The last Phil Painter was a sentient beverage on Halaxis Eight, that if not properly complimented before consumption, would insult the pretzels consumed along with it.

Nicolette Apraez

Nicolette Apraez

*One of the few editors of The Guide with their entries digitally inscribed in stone.  The connecting entry details Nicolette as being Level 2 Magic Judge from the Atlanta area, whose organizational skills and community involvement, especially at the Grand Prix Magic circuit level, were instrumental to the city of Atlanta becoming the crown jewel of the Cosmic Emperor Gidjace III (a crown whose diameter stretches over one thousand kilometers) .

**an Earthling martial art that seeks unifying the powers of the CR, IPG, and MTR together to settle disputes between multiverse empowered Planeswalkers.

***The waste left by the data ants, when constructed together, makes for a very entangled mess. Some bits have this Phil Painter living and Magicing out of the city of Davis, and some out of Fremont.  But what can be discerned from the data crumbs is that this Phil Painter has links to many other entities in the Magic:The Gathering section of The Guide, most citing Phil as instrumental to their growth in power and skills in the art of the Magic Judge.
