It’s the celebration of the San Diego Joes today on another exciting rendition of Exemplar Highlights! This is your Editor, Daniel Lee, bringing you a glorious tale of community service in the face of a daunting and demanding task. Our recognition today was written by Joe Wiesenberg, L3 from Poway, CA near San Diego. Joe chose to recognize the actions of San Diego L1 Joey Valente, a dedicated Tin Fins player and a regular face in the San Diego Magic scene. If you’re thankful that they don’t both go by Joe, imagine being the one writing about them!
Joe recognized Joey’s efforts in supporting his area’s stores, players, and community. Specifically, he stepped up to connect PPTQs with judges in order to avoid the tragedy of several events failing to launch. No comment on whether or not NASA was consulted for advice.
Joey, despite not being an employee of any of these stores, being any sort of regular player there, or even being the Area Captain, still had forged enough of a relationship that he was the one they turned to when they faced difficulty in securing Head Judges for their PPTQs. I’ll let Joe explain:
“Joey,
We had some TOs who had some trouble scheduling judges for their PPTQs this past season. As soon as you became aware of these problems, you immediately tried to help get those events staffed. You did this despite not being associated with any of those stores in an official capacity. Thanks for helping to make sure that events fired with appropriate judge staff in San Diego.”
In the end, judges are here to serve the players through events and community building. At these tasks, Joey succeeded wonderfully! He expressed a desire to make sure that every event in his area is able to run properly, in order to support and grow the San Diego Magic community. Clearly, his efforts are making an impression and we should strive to be as dedicated to our community as he is. Thanks for setting an example, Joey!
