Advancing the L2 Advancement Process

Hello wonderful judges of USA-South!

My name is Gage Robelen and I’m our region’s new L2 Advancement Coordinator! With that, I come bearing some announcements on changes to the L2 Advancement process, and how they affect you. You may have noticed that the L2 Tester certification is removed so that left us in need of a new way to ensure that L2 testing is available to anyone who needs it.  In summary, we’ve taken a look at the changes made to the process in the program as a whole, and created a process for our region to execute those changes.

The first change that any L2 candidate will encounter is our new L2 Advancement Interest Form! This form will let us know that you’re an L1 interested in becoming an L2, regardless of where you are in the process, and will help us to get you set up with a mentor to help you in your process. This form is optional, but certainly a helpful option for those who aren’t quite sure where to go.

The next change is likely the biggest difference. We have moved to make our evaluation of candidates and their materials more consistent with the expectations of an L2, in order to ensure that each person who advances is ready for the role. What this means for an L2 candidate is that once you have all of your prerequisites complete, you will submit them on the L2 Application Form. This form will include your passing L2P score as well as information about your reviews and tournament report. Thereafter, your materials will be reviewed by the L2 Advancement Committee (who includes the RC, L2 Coordinator, and five experienced L2+ judges), and if your materials meet the standard, you will move to take your L2 Interview with one of the panelists on the committee. If you pass your interview, you will take your L2 exam, proctored by an L2 (not necessarily a committee member). If you pass your exam, congrats! You’re an L2! If you don’t, you will be debriefed on what you missed, and your passing L2 Interview will not expire until one year after the interview, thus you will be able to retest again in three months.

New Process Summary:

  • L2 Interest Form (optional)
  • Complete prerequisites
  • Submit L2 Application
  • L2 Application Accepted
  • L2 Interview (valid for 1 year)
  • L2 Exam

We are excited to work with you, so feel free to submit the interest form, collect your materials, or submit the L2 Application depending on where you are in the process. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to email USASouth.L2Advancement@gmail.com or shoot me a message on Slack.

Bom dia!
Gage R.
