Highlights from Exemplar Wave 8 – Europe-North

We have a lot of awesome judges in the Europe-North region. We have searched through the Exemplar Program – Wave 8, and found some recognitions that we want to highlight.

Patrik – your work ethic and positive attitude was a tremendous resource on Saturday of GP Rotterdam. We got slammed, and things were chaotic! Your ability to handle multiple tournaments and still be a beacon of smiles was great for myself and for other judges in a stressful situation. I also would like to call out your ability to be self-aware enough to know when you needed a break and got water and a headache pill. Many judges with an appetite for work will take on too much and when they crash their tournaments crash with them. It was a pleasure working with you – and I hope to work together soon 🙂

Patrik received an incredible 11 (!) exemplary recognitions for Exemplar Wave #8, and this is just one of them. One important thing related to judging is to not stress when the heat is on. Also, knowing your limit is also of importance as Jon writes, taking a break before you crash is only good for the tournament as a whole. It seems like Patrik has control and is a shining beacon of positive attitude!

Nalle, since moving to Vantaa you have done a great work for building local community there for judges and players alike. You have encouraged local players to become judges and mentored them well, which I can tell by having tested a couple of them. Working closely with the local card shop, you have helped to create welcome and inclusive environment especially for young and new players. Also, thanks for inventing and organizing the first national judge open event. Can’t wait for the next one!

One of the often unseen tasks in the judge-program is building local communities and get new judges into our program. We can tell that Kalle has done a great job locally from this recognition, but also nationally with an national judge open event! Wonder what that might be? Great work Kalle!

Dear Asger. While reviews is always nice to read and receive, the feedback received at the event itself can be just as useful. During our last event together, you deliveres some excellent feedback. At that event, you asked me to “speak up” and push forward my opinion, specifically regarding one of the problems during the event. That talk, and the following review has changed my approach to judging. Because of you, I became aware that by just discussing my views with other judges and how i could find my own standard. Thanks for help and motivating me to finally do something about it. It had been on my mind for a while, but review pushed me the bit. Best Regards Gilbert

Reviews are an important aspect of the judge program, giving feedback on good behaviour but also what the recepient can work more on in the future. From the recognition above it is clearly that the review and feedback that Asger gave, changed the way Gilbert approach judging! Good work!

Thank you for joining us in learning from all the exemplary actions of judges in our region! Exemplar wave #10 has opened and closes august 1. If you have any recognitions, enter them when the situation arises. If you know of any exemplary actions but can’t give recognitions yourself, please contact your local L2 or L3!
