NH/ME/VT Summer Conference 2017 Report

Location: Deerfield, NH Date: 7/16/2017 Photography: Location NH’s first judge conference was held, as organizer described it, “literally in the middle of the woods,” at the scenic Longview School in Deerfield, NH. We were able to use a large gathering hall as our main room, and several classrooms as other seminar rooms. While we were essentially 10 miles from any civilisation, we still had plenty of food, as several judges volunteered to grill and roast hamburgers and hot dogs [...]

Hoboken Judge Conference Report

Eastern European Winter Conference Report

Location: Sinaia, Romania. Date: 5-7 February 2016. Arriving at the hearth of Transylvania was much better then expected. We were warned about bad roads (or no roads at all), but had a completely different experience. Sinaia is a mountain resort known by its Peles Castle, Sinaia monastery and even was a residence for Romanian Royal family. Very beautiful place I recommend for a quality holiday. Friday Night Dinner : The Gathering One of the most awesome thing about conferences [...]

Organizing a Judge Conference – What can go wrong

Last year, I was one of the organizers of the Czechoslovak judge conference. And even though the conference went quite smoothly with about 40 participants and 18 seminars over 2 days, it was not completely problem-free. So, I'm writing this article describing some of the issues we have been dealing with in order to prevent someone else who reads it from repeating them. There is a lot of thing that can go wrong and lots went wrong. Things that can go wrong before the conference, during the conference, [...]

Hosting the Virginia Judge Conference at Battlegrounds

Hosting a conference is a lot of work. There is a ton of planning that goes into it that and I did not realize and were surprised to prepare for. The Set Up or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the LGS Finding the perfect place is difficult, and a truly perfect place can be impossible on a budget. Convention centers can be expensive, and even the local VFW Hall or Recreation center can cost upwards of a couple hundred dollars. Luckily, many LGS’s have an area large enough to host conferences, [...]

Europe North Winter Conference Report

Conference is… gathering We arrived by plane, from Denmark. From Norway and the Baltic countries, many small groups did the same. Finns mostly opted for car trips oscillating between minutes and hours. A Swedish delegation arrived by ship from Stockholm. It may sound a rehearsal of Wacky Races, but there’s no “World’s Wackiest Racer” title to win. We were however (probably) attending the World’s Northernmost Conference: for sure it was an amazing event which took place in [...]

BeNeLux Judge Conference Report

I arrived on Friday at a very dark and lonely parking lot. The ground was muddy, and the weather gods had just decided that now would be the perfect time for the next bit of rain. Inside our location for the weekend, things were much better. Everybody had to take off their shoes to not track the mud inside, which made the atmosphere almost homely. I quickly dropped my bags on a bed upstairs and went back down to greet all the old and new Judge friends. The dinner for that evening was salad with [...]
