How did you get involved in Magic in the first place?
I joined Friday Night Magic. I just learned the rules the day before. I remember that my first opponent asked me, “Do you know the stack?” because my playing was too poor.

You were nominated for being involved in the organization of a cultural exchange at Japanese GPs. Can you tell us more about this?
I think GPs are a wonderful chance for communicating Japanese to foreign judges. But many Japanese has no confidence about their English and they only talk in Japanese. What a waste! So we started this activity. Around 20 judges participated in our activity at GP Nagoya 2018.

What is one tip you have for other Judges?
Be more positive. If you want to challenge anything, you should tell your friend. I’m sure your friend will help you.

What has been your favourite Magic event that you’ve judged?
Grand Prix Kyoto 2017 – This is my first GP as judge. Everything was fantastic! All players played greatly. I was proud to be a judge.

If you could chat with one person, real or fictional, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Sorin Markov, because I love him. My first standard deck was WB Tokens. And he (Sorin, Solemn Visitor) was a key card. I couldn’t buy Gideon, Ally of Zendikar because it was too expensive.

What would you be doing now if Magic no longer existed?
I’d make Magic!

If you were a Planeswalker what would be your ultimate?
-8: You get an emblem with “At the beginning of your end step, create two 3/3 white Cat Angel tokens with flying and lifelink.”

Proudest moment of your Judge life?
I’ve never experienced it. I save it for the day that I judge in Pro Tour!

  2. I am a steady person.
  3. I love judging.
The answer to the last Two Truths and a Lie...
Adam has indeed broken some bones.
