JudgeApps Updates – February 2018

Good news everyone! It’s the February JudgeApps tech blog!We tried to keep ourselves busy during the month and have a few new updates to exams, resolving some maintenance issues and giving a helping hand to judge managers. As always if you have suggestions or ideas we can improve on, feel free to leave us feedback and we will be happy to see what can be done.
And now, on to the news:

Exams

When it comes to exams, there is nothing more frustrating than an accidental shift in result entering. While we can’t prevent it from happening, we can try and fix it when it does. JudgeApps admins now have the power to change answers on finished tests in order to fix any shifts or other errors.
We have also added one more quality of life feature to exams where multiple-choice questions will now include reminder text in order to make them more noticeable.

Level Maintenance

We encountered occasions where judges have their maintenance requirements fall between the cracks. To try and combat this issue, we now have a three-step process in place.
At the end of the year, every L1 that for any reason has not met their level requirements and has not received any input from their RC will be emailed, notifying them about this issue. The most likely issue seems to be wrong DCI number input (this is where the second step comes in), in which case you will be requested to make sure your DCI number is up to date or change it. In any other case, speak with your RC.
Judges will be given the option to update their DCI number or address the issue within a reasonable time frame (a bit longer than a month), after which the second step will kick in and will automatically update the DCI numbers to any new numbers provided during step one, and will resolve any maintenance issues that are fixed with the new number or addressed by the RC.
Step three will be a cleanup of all accounts that have not provided any additional info and still have maintenance issues to resolve, decertifying or updating levels as needed.
We believe this will streamline any maintenance issues and help prevent judges decertifying for silly reasons. Please note that this new future only covers the event judging requirement , since other requirements  are more complex to deal with.

Event Managers

Even judge managers need some love, so we changed the way the application list works. Instead of showing every applicant’s avatar, cover letter and info when you hover over their name, this will now be managed in a collapsing section.
This means that clicking on an applicant’s row will expand their application for easy access, and collapse back with a second click. This should make reading easier and will also be a great improvement for mobile users.

Behind the Scenes

Lastly, we have made some updates to the site itself to improve some filtering options and help us maintain it with cleaner code.

That’s it for now. You can expect more updates next month with new and exciting features. As always, your feedback is welcome!
