Prowess triggers when you cast a noncreature spell, while the spell you just cast only checks whether Ferocious is true as it resolves. Since the trigger goes on top of the spell and resolves first, this generally works out well for you!

How Trinisphere works against Delve.
Trinisphere and delve are interesting companions. Delve is pretty much the only way to "fool" Trinisphere into letting you cast a spell by paying less than 3 actual mana, because delve lets you pay "exile a card from your graveyard" instead of {1} while making payments!
Eidolon of the Great Revel vs. Delve spells.
Delve doesn't actually reduce the cost of a spell; it just changes how you can pay the cost. The converted mana cost of the spell will remain whatever is printed in the top right corner no matter what!
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker’s +1 vs. Hero’s Downfall
Who knew that when Wizards of the Coast released an alternate-art version of Form of the Dragon in FTV: Dragons, they were foreshadowing one of ’s abilities: TURNING INTO A DRAGON!! And not just any dragon, but a hasty, indestructible one at that! While this new Sarkhan is certainly fearsome, he’s not invincible. One of […]
If Narset dies during combat, you can still cast the exiled cards this turn.
Narset's triggered ability grants you the permission to cast the exiled cards that turn, so she doesn't need to stick around for you to cast them after combat.
You can’t see face-down creature spells with Lens of Clarity.
A creature only exists on the battlefield, while a creature spell exists on the stack. As such, Lens of Clarity doesn't let you see face down spells before you decide whether to respond to them.
Prerelease Primer Week – The Ferocious Temur
Last and certainly not least of the five clans, we have the Temur Frontier. They live in the coldest parts of Tarkir, and revere the savagery of the dragons. Their symbol is a set of dragon’s claws, and their mechanic certainly feels savage! Ferocious is another ability word, like Raid from earlier this week. It […]
Prerelease Primer Week – Delve with the Sultai
The Sultai brood are an opulent and decadent clan of necromancers, naga, and naga necromancers. They revere the ruthlessness of the long-gone dragons, and their symbol is a single dragon’s fang. Even their dead fuel their war machine, thanks to their returning Delve mechanic, first pre-printed in Future Sight. Delve works an awful lot like […]
Prerelease Primer Week – The Jeksai’s Prowess
The Jeskai are comprised largely of monks, martial artists, and mystics. They revere the cunning of the long-dead Dragons of Tarkir, and their symbol is a dragon’s eye. As one might expect of skilled martial artists, the Jeskai can do much more damage than it seems they could. Prowess is a triggered ability that triggers […]
