Today’s tip comes straight from one of my Ask A Judge threads, and is about what protection from multicolored ‘means’. Yasova Dragonclaw, just like the other four Khans from the Fate Reforged set, has an off-color ability. In the case of Yasova, her ability requires red or blue mana (or some combination thereof), while Yasova herself is green. This may have you wondering, is her ability multicolored? Will she be able to take a Soldier of the Pantheon? The answer is, Yasova is mono-green. Abilities don’t actually have a color! When it comes to abilities and protection, we look at the SOURCE of the ability, and that’s what matters. Yasova is a green creature, even though she has a Temur color identity for Commander. The symbols in her ability’s text don’t change HER color, so Yasova can absolutely steal a Soldier of the Pantheon. Likewise, she also can absolutely be targeted by an Ultimate Price, as can the other Khans of her set.
