The color of objects (cards, spells and permanents) is determined by the mana cost of the card in most cases. Effects like the one generated by Painter’s Servant or Prismwake Merrow can add to an objects color or change it entirely.

Objects with more than color of mana in their mana cost are obviously more than one color. This applies to cards that have hybrid mana costs as well.
