Enchantments with the subtype of aura, which used to be called local enchantments, all have a keyword ability of enchant. This was changed when 9th Edition of the base set was released. Prior to the change, the type line of these cards read ‘Enchant X.’ They were still enchantments, but they were considered to be a special subset called local enchantments. The word or words that appeared after ‘enchant’ in their type line specified what they could be attached to.
With the change, their type line now reads ‘Enchantment – Aura’ making it clear that it is an enchantment and it has the subtype of aura. The restrictions on what this aura can be attached to are listed in the text box after the keyword ‘Enchant.’
Cards that used to refer to local enchantments have had their official text changed so they refer to refer to auras. Enchantments that did not attach to another object used to be called global enchantments. Now they are referred to as non-aura enchantments.
