The tournament tip last week was about offering prizes or other things in exchange for a result of a game or match, and how that will lead to a disqualification. It was mentioned that there is one exception: you can split prizes in the last round of a single elimination portion of an event. These two final players can choose to split the prizes as they like, and one of them can choose to drop from the event instead of playing this last round.
The important thing to add is that it is best to get a judge involved when this topic comes up. This is an area where saying or doing the wrong thing can lead to problems. Just make it clear to the judge that you want to discuss a potential split of prizes or a concession and you want to make sure that everything is done correctly.
This is also a best practice when arranging a prize split when a concession is not being discussed. In all but the last round of a single elimination event, players are allowed to share the prizes that they will receive as they wish, just as long as the result of the match is not dependent on the split. Just to make sure that there are no questions or concerns, when deciding to do this, call a judge.
