Combat Tricks with Lodestone Myr

As Magic players, we learn early on that creatures can’t tap or attack (unless they have Haste) the first turn they come under our control. There are cards, however, that can use “sick” creatures to tap, even though they just entered the battlefield. A relevant example is Lodestone Myr. Myr’s ability only cares that the card in question is an artifact you control; it uses the word ‘tap’, rather than the tap SYMBOL. This means that we can tap any artifact to pump our Myr- Equipment, Darksteel Citadel, creatures and even itself, “sick” or not! Want to block with a few untapped artifact creatures, then tap them to pump your Lodestone? Do it! You can attack with just your Myr and tap your freshly-played creatures for an unexpected pump, or even use Myr itself as an effectively-3/3 blocker the turn you play it. Another great card that can utilize “sick” creatures is Heritage Druid. It can get you an insane amount of mana while you continue to dump more tap-able creatures for her to utilize. Just as always, the more you know about Magic, the better player you will become. See you next week!
