As is often mentioned, artifact creature is not a creature type. An artifact creature has two permanent types; artifact and creature. Artifact creatures do have creature subtypes, but artifact is not one of them.

War Report, a common from New Phyrexia, counts the number of creatures on the battlefield and then it counts the number of artifacts on the battlefield. (It ‘cares’ about permanent types.) Artifacts creatures are both of those types, so they will be included in each of those totals. In other words, a single artifact creatures in play will cause the controller of War Report to gain two life.
