Copy effect copy other copy effects

Effects that copy one object will normally copy the ‘base’ characteristics of the object and do not copy most other effects applied to the original object. For example, a Clone will copy the printed characteristics of the card that that is chosen as Clone enters play. It does not matter if the creature targeted by Clone has an aura attached to it or has been targeted by Giant Growth, the Clone will not copy these effects. However copy effects will copy other copy effects. This is because a copy effect basically sets the base characteristics of the object that is becoming a copy. For example, let’s say that a Clone enters play copying Llanowar Elves. if another Clone were to enter play copying the initial Clone, then this new Clone would also become a Llanowar Elves. This is because copy effects will copy other copy effects that have been applied previously.
