Yesterday, the rules tip looked at what happens when you play a spell and the card representing the spell goes on the stack as the first thing that happens. The inverse of that is when a spell resolves, the very last thing that happens is that the spell will leave the stack and (most often) go to the graveyard. If this spell was played via flashback or some other effect is being applied, this spell may go to a zone other than the graveyard (e.g., to your hand if buyback was paid for Capsize, or to the bottom of your library if you’re enchanted by Wheel of Sun and Moon).
Players frequently cast spells and put them directly into the graveyard before they finish resolving. This usually makes no difference, but it’s important to understand that the card isn’t actually there until the spell has fully resolved or has been countered. The fact that the spell is still on the stack during its resolution and does not leave the stack before then matters for cards like Mnemonic Nexus. When Mnemonic Nexus resolves, it is still on the stack. After it has resolved completely, it will go to your graveyard where it will be the only card there. It is not shuffled into your library when your graveyard is.
Because spells are put on the stack when played and do not go to the graveyard until they resolve, Memory’s Journey cannot target itself.
