Creatures with Fear can only be blocked by black creatures and artifact creatures. Creatures with Intimidate can only blocked by artifact creatures and creatures that share a color with the creature with Intimidate. These two abilities work the same as long as they are on a creature that is black only, but not in other situations. Intimidate has replaced Fear in all new Magic sets and I would not expect to see Fear used any longer. However that does not mean that older cards have had their official text changed. Doing so would change the functionality of cards like Scornful Aether-Lich.
