In a previous tip it was pointed out that Hero of Bladehold has two triggered abilities, the Battle Cry trigger and a trigger that puts two 1/1 white soldier tokens into play attacking. As mentioned in the previous tip, the order that these triggers go on the stack and therefore resolve matters.
However Hero of Bladehold’s trigger that puts attacking tokens in to play can also be tricky when dealing with multiple things or players to attack. Because these tokens are put into play attacking, who or what they are attacking is chosen when this triggered ability resolves. In most cases, there is only one option and these tokens can only attack the defending player. However if this is a multi-player game where the active player can attack multiple players, it is possible to have the tokens attack a different player than the one that is being attacked by the Hero. In a two-player game, this can apply if the defending player controls a planeswalker. These attacking tokens can be put into play attacking either the defending player or the planeswalker, and again it does not matter who or what the Hero is attacking.
One final fact to point out is that because these tokens are put into play attacking, requirement and restrictions that are normally applied when declaring attackers will not affect them. For example, let use a situation where the defending player controls a Gideon Jura and has used it’s first ability to force the creatures that the current active player controls to attack Gideon Jura. If the active attacking player controls a Hero of Bladehold, then the Hero must attack Gideon Jura. However the token creatures put into play by hero of Bladehold’s ability can be put into the battlefield attacking either Giden Jura, the defending player, or even another planeswalker controlled by the defending player.
